Talk about a turning point...

"Instant gratification? It's not like Iowa has been relevant lately. Other than the horner brunner haluska team that lost in the NCAA first round there hasn't been much to cheer about since march of 2001. I would not call this instant gratificAtion. The highs and lows are likely a byproduct of the fans desperately wanting something to feel good about again related to Iowa basketball"

So we should fire a coach after year 3 in the hopes that Barta can buy Keno Davis...a coach who has zero NCAA Tourney wins on his resume??? That just doesn't sound like a winning formula. Iowa basketball is definitely not relevant right now, but not giving Lick a 4th year is definitely about instant gratification.

What's with all this talk about instant gratification? If wanting to see positive progress in year 3 compared to year 1 of a coach's tenure is instant gratification, then so be it. It shouldn't take 6-7 years for a good coach to turn around a team and make the postseason, and we certainly shouldn't be regressing.

I think it should depend on how the rest of the season goes, rather than fire Lickliter "now". At least let him finish out the season, is what I think, and then judge.

If Barta is going to make a change, no, I don't think it should be that we "hope" we can get a good coach. I think the worst thing we could do is fire Lickliter without having a clue of who we're going to hire, or even who's interested in the job. Instead, if I was Barta and thinking of making a change, I'd be talking to some people and gauging interest. If no interest, don't make a move for the time being. If you have a good hire that seems likely, then I'd be ok with it.

I don't know what rules there are regarding an AD talking to other coaches, but I'd be talking to people before the fact, not fire your coach and then try to figure it all out. I agree, THAT would be a recipe for disaster.
