Take your skirt off KF

That is why Herm Edwards is a TV personality and Kirk is one of the longest tenured coaches in college football.

If Herm could have entered KF body today with 1:17 remaining in that game today, I would have appreciated it. I don't care for Herm Edwards, but Iowa lacked balls today on more than one occasions today.

A great coach has to know when to go for it and not go for it. 2 years ago against The OSU, probably not. Today versus ISU, pretty obviously yes.

Should have went for it in both situations. On the road with a chance to win and got to the Rose Bowl with a freshman QB who played his *** off and you decide to go for OT? Terrible call, today was just as bad.

I was more upset about not going for two after the end of the 2nd OT. It was our chance to win and it was obvious we weren't going to stop ISU's offense. Starting in the 3rd OT, you have to go for two pt conversions anyway, so why not take your chance right there. Especially when our defensive line was gassed as usual.

Agreed. My question is this however, against OSU he went with the excuse that James was unproven and our defense was the strenght of our team so OT made sense. What I don't get is what could he have possibly seen out of our defense today that made him think the wise decision was to take the ball out of our offenses hand and deliberately put our defense in a position where they had to get back on the field.
I just truly don't get it and likely never will. IMO the decision today totally contradicted the logic that he used last time and the outcome remained the same. Games are 60 minutes long for a reason and to throw essentially throw in the towel anytime before the finall whistle blows and the game is on the line IMO is inexcusible.

Agreed. Today and 2009 @OSU were BOTH the wrong call. Against OSU, we had all the momentum and KF gave that away by waiting for OT and letting OSU regroup.

Didn't JVB audible on 1st down to a Coker run when we got the ball back w/ 1:10 left? ISU was backed off and looked ready to let IA head down the field for the game winning FG, but I think JVB checked out of a pass play. What ****** me off is that after that initial run they didn't try to do much of anything. This still doesn't excuse the overall "play the percentages," conservative nature of how everything is done, but I think they initially called a pass play to start the drive.

Kirk's philosophy seems to be to hope the other team makes a mistake.

Which they usually don't.
Only if Iowa forces them too, and this defense isn't going to force much from other teams. The front 4 is the weakest in a very long time.

Technically, Vandy could have been calling an audible to switch the direction the run was going, or calling a different run play. We don't know what was called initially.

The other two things that really bugged me were the reverse pass (flashback to the '06 Alamo Bowl) and not going for it on 4th down after the offsides penalty made 4th and 6 a 4th and 1.

The reverse pass was just so random. We were actually moving the ball on offense, and then we randomly call a play that can just as easily kill a drive as save it. Just like the call in the Alamo Bowl.

You can't play for overtime on the road, especially in a rivalry game when the place was going nuts like JTS was today (I was there, and the place was insane).
