Take the selection committee quiz

Go to this site and choose "pop quiz" from the menu. It will give you the RPI ranking, SOS, etc. for 2 teams from previous tournaments and you have to choose which team the committee left out. I'll have to admit that I didn't do too well and a couple of times, I thought that the team that was left out had to be pretty ticked about being left out in favor of the team that was picked.

Interesting how they leave out "Overall W-L record"

Ok, I am going to stop arguing for Iowa being in the tournament now (no I won't). I only got 2 out of 5 correct.

I got 3 of the 5, but given what was presented does NOT bode well for Iowa making the Dance.

GO HAWKS!!!

I just took a look at the 10 people that are on the committee and it does not look good. I cannot help but notice the strong presence of mid majors on this committee and no one with a Big Ten background.

So, because the deck isn't stacked with Big 10 homers you're afraid of Iowa not making it? At least you're honest...

Mark Hollis, Michigan State AD, is on the committee.

If that's all they look at then Iowa is in trouble even if they win 2. And no wonder some of the bubble teams that have been left out. I would think they'd look at more than that. But going just by that I wouldn't put Iowa in either.

I think you're reading into this way too much. Big difference between having at least 1 with B1G experience and no one. He didn't say there needs to be at least 50% representation from the B1G.

Probably right. It's crazy to look at some of the records they skipped over for seemingly 'lesser' teams last year. I got 60% on the quiz, but felt dirty about some of my picks...

So if a Mid Major, has a high RPI, SOS is not as important because the expectation is they are a mid major so there is going to be a "cap" on SOS. Makes sense, sort of. So mid majors are given some slack on their SOS.

If a power conference school has a poorer SOS, but a lower RPI, it is assumed that because you are in a power conference your SOS should be high. So that tells me your non-conference schedule is poor, then you are already in deep trouble.

But are they totally blind comparisons? Meaning, does the selection committee know which team they are looking at (or at least the conference they hail from) prior to judging? Cuz otherwise your argument won't fly.

I do like your thinking - makes sense. However, life doesn't seem to make sense most of the time ;-)

As much publicity that the Bubble Watch gets from ESPN and CBS the selection committee would have to be living without electronics not to pretty much know what resume belongs to which team. By looking at a team's key wins and losses you can most likely tell which conference they play in.

I think there are 2 comparisons totally blind, and then with the teams names attached (without records) . They put up the 20 or so bubble teams.

If you are picked under both scenario's you are in, if you are picked under only 1 or the other, and there are still spaces available, then the debate begins and overall record is drug into it.

Then again as IowaFan 81 suggests they proabably would almost have to live in a vacuum to at least not have a feeling what teams are what.

But do they list the teams or just the ranking?

For instance, does the report they use just say a certain team beat #32 RPI on a neutral court, beat #44 RPI on the road and beat #9 RPI at home.

4/5.....fairly easy to be accurate....completely ignore w/l, look at SoS and there you go.

Something the BCS misses on completely.

And I'm afraid, without 3 BTT wins, Iowa will be playing another home game.
