Tailgating

I have been a season ticket holder for a few seasons now but I never really did any tailgating in UI lots or private. I would normally go to the bars downtown then walk to Kinnick. This year the wife and I along with 6 friends have decided to tailgate in the UI lots. I have not been able to find any 2016 information about rules or what lots are available. We wouldn't mind going to pay lots but we are looking to find a lot away from the college crowd. Any information or links would be appreciated. Thank you in advance and Go Hawks!

I think the farther away you are from Fort Kinnick the more loose you can tailgate, pertaining to Iowa Cities finest regulating you. Not that you are looking to party it up or anything, but it would be more casual for you and away from the college aged crowd. I suppose you could be out in back 80 in Finkbine which is across from Carver or even around the women's softball complex. Not a bad 10-15 minute walk to get to Kinnick and away from the raucous.

Finkbine driving range for UI lots. If you want to be closer to Kinnick, there's spots that are sold on gameday right on Melrose.

Backside of Finkbine coming in just before Carver isn't bad.Changed the rules last couple years they won't let you in until around 6:00am.It doesn't fill up fast so you could get there between 7-8 and still find grass to tailgate if needed. Most of the fans there are long time season ticket holders with families, good mix of mid 20's to 60+.Everyone plays there games and cooks out, police go thru but really don't bother anyone like they use to.As far as things you can't have is any hard liquor, they will make you pour it out and can give you a stiff ticket. You can have wine and champagne and of course Beer.I usually premixed my bloodys before going or bring liquor in a container.Hope this helps.Almost forgot to tell you when leaving after the game always go out the backside of lot takes you to Melrose and to Interstate(you get out a lot quicker.Hope this helps.Go Hawks

The lot you are talking about is Finkbine Commuter Lot. Enter off Hawkins right at the bend. And yes, exit out the back to Melrose. And it is a good lot with mixed tailgaters. Lots of families. We take our 2 and 4 year old grandsons.

I make my own beer and plan on bringing it for tailgating. Please ignore my ignorance but are cony kegs allowed? I can bottle but would like to avoid the extra step if possible.

Take this FWIW:

"On football game days only, beer and wine are allowed in UI parking areas. Patrons and ticket holders are advised that state law prohibits hard liquor consumption of possession of an opened bottle of hard liquor on public property, which includes UI parking lots and ramps.

Beer trucks, kegs, open bars and people in possession of exorbitant amounts of alcohol will not be permitted in any UI parking area, including parking ramps. Violators will be asked to leave University property immediately."

"Violators will be asked to leave University property immediately." That would be kind. Surprised there is no reference to citations and fines.
