Tackle Cobb Today

On D our philosophy should be pretty simple today ... TACKLE COBB. He has 2/3 of their rushing yards and is averaging 5.4 yds per carry. At 230 lbs he is not easy to bring down. Leidner is not a threat to throw the ball ... he has only completed 51% of his passes and has 6 TDs with 6 INTs.

Do whatever we did in the second half against Pitt. I feel like this defense is so close to be a dominating force. Today would be a great day to continue off the momentum of the Northwestern game.

We cannot let history repeat and have another tackling performance like we had against MD. Recall, excellent game vs IU coming off bye week, then couldn't tackle worth crap against MD.

I dont know if our run defense was excellent against IU, ok for the most part but gashed by 3-4 big runs.

Like I said before last week's game, need penetration a couple steps in the backfield to make Cobb have to make an early stop and start, dont let him get up to speed,

Davis and LTP and other tackles need to penetrate and clog things up at the same time by demanding at least one double team.

Outside backers or the DEnds depending on how they line up need to hold the edge but get at least a yard in the backfield to make the runner veer deeper.

And as you say , tackle, tackle at the waist or legs and not up high on the shoulders, wrap up instead of just a body block tackle.

Go get them defense

Yep, you're right. I forgot about what Coleman did to us. But that just makes it even more important to have 8/9 in the box. Forget the base defense, game plan for this game. This team is a one-headed monster. Sell out to cut off the head.

Also, Minny won the PU game by returning a kickoff late....they are good on special teams...if Hawks win special teams, they will win.

Have to force him to change direction in the backfield / tackle him low and wrap up. Basically, do what Iowa has done well in the past when playing big backs.
