Syracuse & Jim Boeheim Punished

Finally getting what they deserve IMO.

The NCAA Committee on Infractions has suspended Syracuse men's basketball coach Jim Boeheim for nine games, vacated wins in which ineligible players competed and reduced by three the number of men's basketball scholarships for four years because of violations that occurred for more than a decade in men's basketball and football.
The committee also has imposed financial penalties, imposed recruiting restrictions for two years and sanctioned the school with five years of probation because of 10 self-reported violations that included academic misconduct, extra benefits, the failure to follow its drug testing policy and impermissible booster activity.

Great to see but I still wonder what is taking so long for the NCAA to hammer Roy Williams and UNC.

You know how the NCAA works, they take forever to handle these things, and end up punishing the wrong people.

After reviewing this I think the punishment was actually a little light. They accepted Syracuse's self imposed postseason ban this year but Syracuse is 18-12 (RPI 62) and not going to the NCAA tournament anyway. The scholarship loss could hurt but they already have four 4-stars signed for next year and another one committed for the year after. So yeah the margin for error is reduced but overall they could be a top 25 team next year and compete for the national title right away.

They should receive a 2 year postseason ban starting NEXT year since they did so poorly this year, IMO.

No wonder Syracuse got out ahead of this and self imposed a postseason ban this year. Sneaky f'ing bastards

Yea but good ol Roy had no idea any of this was going on. It is a bunch of BS that nothing has happened at NC yet. Perfect example of the NCAA at their finest.

I'm sure he'll retire. Then a new coach will come in and the school & media will beeeeeoitch about how it's not fair for the current players and the current players didn't have anything to do with this. The NCAA will then reduce the sanctions and all will be back to normal in a matter of 3 years. So they got to cheat for a decade or longer & reap all the benefits & copious $$$ and really only end up having to pay for 3 years. That's how these things usually end up. See Penn St.

Vacating wins. Pfffffftttttt.......

Anyway, I always kinda admired the Syracuse hoops program. No more.

This!

It sure seems like with the NCAA , the benefits of cheating far outweigh the penalties in the unlikely event you get caught.

I would bet almost anything that eventually Boeheim gets those victories back. The NCAA are ******* and should have come down harder. No post season ban next year? Ridiculous! They almost bent over backwards to not hurt the program and now there will be the appeal process which will erode the penalties even further. Wonder when Dickie V. will come out with his appeal for mercy for his great friend and coach. BS.

I still don't believe Boeheim thinks he did anything wrong. He's always been dirty and I believe it's been institutionalized at Syracuse. Hey, you caught us, we will take the punishment. I'm surprised the administration doesn't come out and say, "we've lowered our expectations for the program since the NCAA has levied sanctions that will hurt our competitiveness...but we are confident in our coaches ability to get the players he wants (through other means) and continue to perform on the court."

I'm pretty confident that the guys that get the limited scholarships at Syracuse going forward, will actually be taking a pay cut. You watch...a big time recruit will sign there and "pay his own way"...wink, wink.

LOL @ Boeheim....Syracuse gets beat by NC State today and he no shows the post-game presser. Sends his assistant out instead

Didn't have to wait long...dickie just went on 4 minute rant during the virginia-louisville game about how jimmy didn't do anything wrong and the NCAA was too harsh

Read a couple of articles on this. Not a good situation at all. Players had classwork done for them and Syracuse covered up investigation and changed a grade on a player's course from a year earlier after he did an assignment to raise his grade (he didn't do the assignment).

Not as bad as Penn State football.

So that means in a year the NCAA will start giving scholies back to Syracuse and wins back to Jimmy. Maybe give them an NC for good measure.
