We clearly need to try to become a Purdue or a Michigan State. We are never going to be able to outbid for top portal talent, so why throw money at replacement-level players to end up with a constant churn of mediocrity (or worse)? Spend the money on retention and development, and reap the rewards of culture and continuity. We will never be the most talented, but we will be consistently good, and we will be fun to watch.

It has basically been the Iowa way forever, notably in football. The BB programs (both of them) need to really lean into it, as opposed to chasing portal pipe dreams.
