Survey: UI No. 2 "Party School" in U.S. | KCRG-TV9 | Cedar Rapids, Iowa News, Sports, and Weather | Top 9

Wasnt sure where to put this. Jumped 2 spots to #2. From article:

The Princeton Review ranks the UI second on the party school list in its 2013 guide, right behind West Virginia University. Ohio University in Athens, the University of Illinois and the University of Georgia round out the top five.

"I think everyone just likes to have a good time and go to the games and represent our school," said UI sophomore, Jamie Seibert. Seibert says this attitude at Iowa's notoriously rowdy football tailgates might contribute to the reputation for being a 'party school'.

Notoriously rowdy tailgates? Interesting...

Was wondering when someone would post something about this on here that wasn't in the "unavailable" (to smartphones) OFF TOPIC forum [just putting it out there]!

No such thing as bad publicity, right? Oh snap. Nonetheless, it's creepy being recognized as such, and yet feeling good about being ahead of Wisky...again.

I don't understand why people have trouble accessing the OT board or the cave with their smartphones, are using the app or accessing it through your broweser? The app is ****.

While I laugh when I see these rankings, I also hate when Iowa shows up because it just means that Sally Mason & Gary Barta will have their panties in a bunch this fall and try to crack down even more on tailgaters, especially ones that really are not causing any trouble.

I feel like we were #1 during one of my year's at school..

...2005? 2006?

EDIT: Research proved my assertion incorrect.

Evans: Party school ranking doesn?t mean anything - The Daily Iowan

The university spokesman says they don't pay much attention to this survey. Plus the statistics show a percentage cut in binge drinking. From article:

UI spokesman Tom Moore echoed the sentiment that the publication’s rankings were loosely based on factual data.

“We find it amazing that any one pays attention to such an unscientific, invalid survey,” he said. “There’s no validity to it whatsoever.”

“We don’t change strategies based on rankings like these,” she said. “It creates community awareness, which is positive, but we know the problem won’t be solved in a couple of years.”

Bender said that in addressing the binge-drinking culture in Iowa City, the administration uses solutions based in scientific evidence.

There are decreases across the board in the number of drinks consumed, percentages of students drinking at all in a 30-day period, and of students drinking 10 or more days per month — all according to the National College Health Assessment Data for 2012.

“Among all the rankings published by various media outlets, the Princeton Review’s stand out for its complete lack of objective, scientific methodology,” wrote Moore in an email to The Daily Iowan.

I don't know how we're #2. The downtown scene is nothing like it was when I was in school just a few years ago. The 21 and over ordinance has really weakened the downtown scene. Jake's closed, Fieldhouse is where Etcetera used to be, Union only half open, etc.

No one invites you to house parties?

Day and night for me...

The browser is too small of print and you then have to thumb from side to side just to read one post, yet alone a column. Need to constantly "bounce" page to get font bigger, then not consistent. Forgetaboutit if you want to post, My fingers are too big.

Whereas the app fits perfect, I can scroll fast through a thread and read faster than a book. you only need to scroll down, not side to side. You can see who each author of post is as you're reading. It loads so much faster in switching pages and threads, there are no graphics to load, no ads. It fits instantly. It keeps perfect track where I'm at on a thread. I can get to the app so much faster from anywhere on my phone and I don't have to log in each time I wish to post.

For ME, it is way more responsive, convenient and user friendly (just can't get to OT and the cave).

Now pass me another drink, I have a party to get to.

Iowa City is nothing like it used to be. I'm sure the house party scene is stronger than ever.

But tailgating is an extremely watered down version of its old self circa 2004 and before. It gets more pussified every year too.
And the bar scene is 21 and over.
