Sunday morning QB - toned down

It is nice to allow one night's sleep to tone down my reaction to yesterday's game.

How can we explain the OSU game against the WS game? Pressure. Our offense simply cannot handle pressure at this point. The blitzes were not picked up. We failed to go downfield when opportunities presented themselves, looking instead at a small window just within 10 yards. The 3rd down conversions that we had amounted to dropped passes. And the crowd created penalties as well as the fumble-TD. Our offense cannot handle pressure yet. (But without pressure, our offense has shown it is top-notch.)

The failures of our special teams had a huge impact, especially in the first half. The WS game is always a field-position game. We lost that battle big time. And our Defense wore out - who can blame 'em?

We're going to be ok. It doesn't look that way, but we're going to be ok. Our OL will continue to grow up. Our DL will get better -- especially if we get the kid from Dowling. Our HC needs to allow Wiegers to play when Stanley allows the pressure to affect him so. That is one aspect that I am concerned about -- can our coaching staff get out of the way and allow team progression through competition?

We will dominate Purdue at home. And Nebraska will not be a match. 8-4. Pretty good, all things considered.

Personally, I would not bet a nickle on those "lock" wins vs Purdue and Nebraska...we are back to Kirk ball...

From what I saw...Stanley was zeroing in one one receiver...and looked panicked...home state embarrassment...

Take the OSU aberration out of the body of work and how would you evaluate Iowa's season?

Not many surprises...7-5, 6-6...stellar Kirk...vanilla...average...

I agree, and really hope you're right.

The game was there for the taking any sort of life on offense and the Hawks would have had a comfortable halftime lead. Phil Parker is light years ahead of the offense on coaching ability. Maybe it's time to bring in an innovator for coaching the offense. My Lord I've been a Stanley supporter for two years now but a coaching staff needs to see when a player needs to be pulled, maybe just for series, to get their head on straight. Plus what is the rule on artificial noise being played on the loud spakers? Whisky was cranking the speakers right up to and sometimes into the play. Is there a Big rule about that?

I believe there are rules about noise as the hawk band always stops playing as the other team gets ready for a snap. but it doesnt matter in kinnick because in big situations the crowd is very loud.

I would say it is cheap if Wisky is playing loud music right up to and even after a snap.

The band would have been an improvement, this was loud speaker music and videos of former players screaming for fans to make some noise. They cut it as the players lined up to snap the ball then the crowd took over. It was constant during Iowa's possessions. I know we do it at Kinnick on big downs but it was just constant at Camp Randall. Fans only had to make noise for like 10 seconds or less at a time. There's no way they couldn't heard each other in the huddle.

Purdue hung with Wisconsin. I wouldn't call that a lock, particularly if anything resembling the offense we saw yesterday shows up. Nebraska, who knows, it looks like they may have tossed in the towel. Depending on how Iowa does next week, it may be two teams looking forward to getting their seasons over with.

Agree with everything except this. Nathan Stanley is the QB for the next two years. He should be getting every snap the rest of the way. You can't waste snaps on a guy who's going to be wearing a different uniform next year. Besides, I don't think Stanley was that terrible. Hard to look good as a QB when your receivers drop passes and your OL couldn't block a piece of Kleenex (along with your senior center having the worst game of his career).

The offense was abysmal yesterday, but I think too much of that is being put on Stanley. I'm not even close to jumping off his bandwagon yet.

How many QBs are going to have a good stat line on the road with an offensive line that repeatedly allowed pressure, no running game, horrible field position and receivers dropping almost everything? Of the three turnovers, only one really was his fault (the drop of the ball while he was trying to avoid yet another sack). The others were a bad premature snap by Daniels and a great interception by the LB. Contrary to what some are saying, that was not a bad pass. He had Fant breaking open and threw a nice ball. The LB simply made a great athletic play. That happens.

I don't know if we'll equal Wisconsin anytime soon, but personally I see the potential for growth with this young team and am looking forward to the next couple of seasons.

I noticed it too and it kind of reinforced my image of Madison as a not very friendly and less than gracious place. It doesn't show much class IMO.

we went back to our "we are who we are" offense and defense and WUs knew what to do. we had 26 runs and 24 passes. half of our plays were against 8 men in the box. half.

It's all Kirk ball. Everytime. What? You think he turns it on and off to #uck with you? LOL. It's working.

The pass intercepted by the LB was a good play, but it definitely looked to be under thrown...with not enough lift on it...it was a bad pass on a terrible day.

I never expected Iowa to beat Wisconsin. But after the Ohio State game I hoped they would.
There is a lot of potential with this team. Unfortunately we have to be patient. It's just sad that we will lose the best linebacking group that Iowa has had in many years.
I picked Iowa to go 6-6 and it looks like they will exceed that. Good on them. GO HAWKS

Seems to me the biggest problems were on the offensive and defensive lines. Wisconsin was flat out bigger/stronger/faster. They literally pushed Iowa around and imposed their will all day long.

There was certainly offensive line problems in terms of recognition as well, yes. I won’t deny that.

Wisconsin is the “developmental” program Kirk and company want to be. But Wisconsin also has the identity Kirk & company crave. They don’t disguise anything. They are power offense. Right now Wisconsin is “out Iowa-ing” Iowa on everything Iowa wants to be. I have to tip my hat to Wisconsin. Right now, they got it, and Iowa has to figure out how to go and get it.

The Bullies of the Big Ten are now the pansies...what is the identity of the team at this juncture...other than developmental?

Yes. Stanley is inconsistent with touch passes. He'd rather bore a hole in the receiver's hands (maybe this is why so many are dropped) than pitch it over defenders and let WRs run under them.

I fully agree that Stanley has entrenched himself as our starter. However, playing the backup in these situations (where Iowa had no chance to win) has many benefits. It saves the starter from unnecessary injury. It provides the backup with important gametime experience. Perhaps it will provide a different look that may give insight on how to attack such a defense. I do not agree that we must prevent the backup from getting any snaps so as to preserve the confidence of the starter. That axiom did not hold at the beginning of the season, and it should not now.

Home field has always carried its advantages but seems like this year it's providing even more octane to some of the home teams. We saw it at work again yesterday with several ranked opponents falling on the road and with some of the wide margins of victory in some of the games by the home team. Heck, even Alabama was on the ropes at Mississippi.

We should know by now that oftentimes these scores mean nothing going into the next week's games. We know this first hand but so do a lot of other teams this season.

While the fourth quarter certainly sucked, and I get that people want to rank on KF or BF or Stanley or the OL, yesterday was a "team" loss.

Wisconsin is a good team, and they brought it, especially the latter stage of the game. Hats off to them, now we move on...
