Subscription Price

@RobHowe , I've been seeing the ad removal pop up a few times now and it's got the teaser rate of $0.99 for the first month, but doesn't say how much after that. I'm assuming you guys are going to go the route of requiring either subscription or ads; I'm willing to pay a reasonable subscription but I don't want to create an account with the third party site until I know what it'll cost.

I'm unaware of any subscription requirements for HN.

We made some structural changes this summer, though. I will ask in case I missed something.

I get this when I go to the main HN page, desktop and mobile both.

I got it to. I disabled my ad blocker for this site and dont get it anymore.
Without the adblocker the site is unusable for me (on an iPhone X) I'd pay a couple bucks a month for ad-free subscription, I read all of the articles and get a lot of news here, it'd be worth it. Until that option it's too crazy of an ad barrage.

Like the DMR and Gazette websites, those two are so bad you can't read a story because it's 95% ad space by square inch.

Idk bout y'all but I click on as many ads as I can to help Rob feed the fam. Well, I really do it because he hasn't blocked me yet and I appreciate that. ;)
I’m with ya, but I’d rather donate a few bucks a month so I don’t have to navigate it.

As said in the earlier post, we've had some structural changes in management meant to help us add revenue. Advertising revenue has changed during the last five years with plummeting CPM rates from Google ads and other platforms. It's why we moved to Connatix from You Tube for our video platform. You Tube gives us crumbs even though we do all the work.

Here's what I was told by management in regards to the new changes here:

We are slowly rolling out a program that prompts users to disable their ad blocker if it is turned on. The user has the option to disable it or continue to use it for a small monthly fee.

This is not shown to all users on the site, only to users with ad blockers engaged.

I don't know but will ask. I'd like to be as transparent as possible.

This is something we should have alerted you guys about before it was activated. That's on us. Apologies.

Just created an account, it’s $2.99/month or $29.99/year.

@RobHowe , last question that maybe you can ask your management...

I don’t always get the pop up when I go to the site (it seems random), and I don’t see a login anywhere except in the pop up. If I pay the $30 and don’t get prompted to login how would we get around that?

I know you don’t have much for answers at the moment but thought I’d ask. I’m more than willing to sign up but it looks like it might be a work in progress so I’ll probably hold off for a while.

Thanks for figuring out the price. I have forwarded your question to management. I'll post the response when I get it.
