West high may have almost as many students at their games as the hawks. Pretty sad. Some nights this year there were more cheer/poms/band than students.

So every one of their students show up? I find that hard to believe.

Not sure where the OP is going with this... but as a parent of a couple West High kids, I am appalled by the lack of support WHS fanbase gives it's teams. Last night at the girls state tournament, there were no cheerleaders, no pep band... and only a handful (I'm guessing 15-20 students) supporting their girls team.
Meanwhile Mason City had 2 complete bleacher sections packed, along with their pep band and cheerleaders. Add in the fact that they were all color coordinated (white tourney shirts, parents included), and extremely loud... it was embarrassment for West.
In case you are wondering Mason City is farther away from DSM than Iowa City is.
