students in free to the NIT?

I really think letting them in free again would help the environment a lot. is that possible for them to come in free?

I wished they would have bumped up the price of the regular ticket a couple of bucks to accommodate letting the students in for free. If it gets a couple hundred more students back to campus for this game the better it is for the team.

But I wonder since this is a NCAA event if they are even able to give away tickets.

Two things:

1. Students are on Spring Break;

All the more reason to give free admission IMO. Need to get as many students as possible IMO considering there won't be many to begin with - so free admission might still draw a few? Otherwise, probably won't be hardly any students at all.

I would be willing to bet this is it. Plus, if Barta really did "bid" on a NIT home game not giving free tickets was probably part of the deal.

Iowa his hosting but they have to follow the NIT's rules.

Maybe $1 hot dogs though? ;)

$5 is nothing, even for students. I hate the argument saying $5 is too expensive. Students usually spend much more than that every weekend, and its no problem then. But when it comes to a basketball game, its too much?

Also, theres no way we'd get free tickets into this game without a student organization sponsoring it. That wont happen because everyone left for break, so it wouldn't be seen as a worthwhile investment.

How about $5 worth of free hotdogs per student, they can sell them to general admission ticket buyers to offset the extremely expensive $5 student ticket costs.... Or they could just drink one less beer after the game and not complain and go out and support their team.

I know how to get Carver packed every game at even higher ticket prices, at halftime have wet t-shirt contests. Slow motion instant replays on jumbo screens.

I know they can't give away booze, but why not $5 tix and all you can drink Red Bull? And then tell security to go easy on the pat downs for kids sneaking in flasks or airplane bottles.

Talk to Red Bull, see what they are willing to sponsor. It'd be nice to see an arena of college kids all jacked up, even if they don't mix it with booze.

And maybe some of the older folks from Muscatine and Monticello would enjoy ridin' the bull. Way too many over 50 folks in Carver who never stand up. I got no problems with their age, but that crowd has been way too reactive and not proactive enough for years...

It's time for the marketing department to think outside the box a little. They show absolutely no creativity - ever. I'd love to see them hire a couple folks from a minor league baseball organization, and also let a couple marketing students implement some ideas. Pretty stuffy and stale when it comes to these things.

I'm definitely making the trip. It's one thing if there's something going on that prevents you from going, or if you live too far away. But if the difference between $5 and free is what keeps you from coming to watch the Hawks in their first postseason since your sophomore year of high school, then **** off.

Depending on how far away from Iowa City a students lives, gas may be more of an issue than the ticket price.

NIT sets the minimum student ticket price at $4. Why, I have no idea. But in my time in Iowa City I saw no shortage of students lining up to pay $5 to get in the Union, Fieldhouse, etc. I doubt it will be a limiting factor.

Like I said, I can understand if you're a student who lives too far away and can't really afford the gas money. But if it's the ticket price that's the snag in the whole deal, then you're not much of a fan in the first place. I'd walk the streets looking for loose change to get $5 for a ticket to an NIT/NCAA game.
