Students get in FREE

(Dating myself here..a lot!)....back when I was on campus (78-82), that old field house was packed to the gills for every single game (even winter break), no matter who the opponent was. Balmy Nov/March weather or below-zero miserable nights. Didn't matter.

No gimmicks. No freebies.

It was a much much tougher ticket to get than a FB ticket.

Thinking back...on campus at that time were 1.) Lute, 2.) Hayden, 3.) Gable, 4.) Glenn Patton (swimming), and 5.) AD = Bump Elliot.

Wow.

Hey Seth, proly ran into you somewhere - those are the same years I was there. 'Cept I was living in the projects - Hawkeye Court.:D

Wow.

I'll lecture all you young uns about back in the day. Try 1973 to 1977? Th sixties were dying down, the horrible 70's music scene of disco and pop were upon us the the impending doom of the Reagan years were about to descend upon us.

Some of us still enjoyed and supported the Hawkeyes even though it was not really hip or cool and for people who supported winners (about 80% of Hawkeye fans and posters these days)... you wouldn't have shown up for any of the horrible losing seasons at Kinnick (newly named) or the Iowa Field House.

The Field House did only hold about 10,000 people and they stuck us students in the upper decks with more than a few obstructed views. Between the bleachers and the students pounding their feet on that odd fiber glass seating arrangement... the noise and the home court advantage was unbelievable.

They even charged us for those tickets.

I just don't get it why the Dukies get such credit in Cameron when it holds 10,000 people, the students get in free and get to sit in primo seats from the front court end line to end line. Try some free and primo seats for the Iowa kids and see how that works out.

Since it will be 2 degrees with -20 degree windchill and we are playing PSU, the crowd will probably be a little light tonight.
