I have to admit I don't know much about this. Living out of country I saw the Big10 streaming site for about $15 a month.

What kind of a computer setup does one need to do something like this efficiently? Is it difficult to stream consistently or can a MacBook Pro handle it with no problem?

I am looking into different ways to view Iowa sports but before I spend the money I want to be sure that the system will work.

I am also looking into having our daughter buy a Slingbox and connect it to her system and then order the Big 10 Network. Would that ensure that we could watch all or most games on tv?

Any other ideas??? We live in Ecuador and many of the music/tv/movie download sites available will not allow us to use them.
 


I would think a MacBook Pro would be fine. If it's an HD broadcast, you'll probably want a fairly recent laptop. If it's an SD broadcast, most any computer built in the last couple years should be fine. I have a 5-year-old Dell laptop that streams movies and things like that just fine. A fast Internet connection would be more important I think.

Does your laptop have an HDMI out port? If it does, you could output the audio/video to your TV as well.

I run it fine on my trusty Apple II GS.
 


Yah, it is more about your connection speed when streaming video. My now 3.5 year old HP laptop handled the ESPN3.com streams just fine last year and it was nowhere close to top line.
 




Reading is fundamental. Or in my case reading the entire post first. Didn't see the last part about many of the sites not being available where you live. I would say that you should try contacting the BTN and seeing if they are allowing it to be shown down there yet. Definitely find out about their cancellation and refund policy if you sign up for it and it ends up that you can't receive it you can get your $$$ back. Best of luck.
 


atxhawk hit the nail on the head with both of his posts. It's more about the connection speed than the laptop as far as getting streaming to work. Anything made in the last 5 years should be able to stream as long as the internet connection is good.

Slingbox is a quality option. You should be able to watch all the games that way if your daughter gets BTN.

I sent an email to the Big10 Network and asked these questions. If I can't stream them directly, I believe I can still get it if my daughter buys a slingbox...
