strasburg to get surgery

dollar bills is all i see $$$$$$$$$$

sucks for washington but it was a matter of time with his violent throwing

Stephen Strasburg of Washington Nationals has torn ligament; surgery probable - ESPN

Violent throwing? What are you talking about. Kid has a nice delivery, it's not like he's Tim Lincecum or anything like that. Just unfortunate is all.

That being said, by the time he gets back in 2012, the Nats should have Bryce Harper in their day to day lineup as well.

you literally have a stronger ligament after the reconstruction, so no problem there. now, a year and a half away from the game might really hurt, but the elbow can be repaired.

I would imagine that they'll bring him back very slowly, in the same fashion that they developed him this year. You can't really say that the Nats rushed him or brought him up too quickly; they handled him exactly how he said they would. Just a freak thing.

Interesting note from Twitter (Jerry Crasnick of ESPN):

9 pitchers who have had Tommy John surgery were in the 2010 All Star Game:

Chris Carpenter, Tim Hudson, Josh Johnson, Arthur Rhodes, Brian Wilson, Soria (KC), Kuo (LA), and R. Soriano (TB).

Nothing new here....crummy teams trot out a hotshot, hoping to get some exposure and fill up the ball park and they end up over-using him, shortening their career.

David Clyde of the Texas Rangers (73) was the first of the modern examples of this practice.

Developed so slowly that he was drafted all of 13-14 months ago.

Developed him so slowly that he had pain, went on the DL, came back off the DL, and was immediately hurt to the point that he needed Tommy John surgery.
