Story: Travis Vokolek Discusses Hawkeye Visit

Rob, does this kid have an offer? In the article he says they want him to come but it never states he has an offer. Is he good enough to contribute with an off year to improve his game?

Yes. He has an offer.

I don’t think he’d have one or he would have been brought in for a visit if the coaches didn’t think he could contribute.

If this kid has NFL potential, with his Iowa ties, I'd think he'd have Iowa city written all over him.

Plus, his last name sounds like a TE............

I think Iowa is the team to beat. I do think he's being deliberate with the process to make sure after things not working out at Rutgers.

So, when he becomes eligible, we would be looking at:
  • Vokolek (jr)
  • Beyer (sr)
  • Kujawa, Schulte, and Feldman (jrs, all walk-ons)
  • Miamen (so)
  • LaPorta (so)
  • Yelverton (current commit, fr)
  • Hopefully one of: Caleb Fauria, Theo Johnson, or Jonathan Odom (would be fr)
Johnson and Odom are big-body guys (currently 245 and 250, respectively), but the rest of the bunch are receiver types. Of course, so was Hocksenson when he came in, so you never know how they will develop. But it seems like Vokolek has a clear role as the in-line guy from the moment he becomes eligible.

I think Logan Lee is definitely bound for another position. Sounds like he will start out at DE, but I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up at OT at Iowa en route to an NFL career at that position.

Don’t take this as gospel because I’ve only heard speculation, but I’m kind of under the impression that Iowa backed off a little bit here.

Think they feel strongly about some of the TE recruits in the 2020 class and the two we just brought in in 2019.

The guy was from Rutgers for krist sakes. Just because he has a little experience doesn't make him an automatic 4* transfer recruit. I agree with what you are saying or implying. Plus, an incoming freshman would have 4-5 years in the program instead of 2 years left.
