You can leave the portal anytime before you actually transfer. But, why would you stick around to play a meaningless game for a coach who doesn’t want you?

Hell no. It's like firing a disgruntled employee than asking if they want to stick around a bit longer. If the coaches know a player isn't "all in" they aren't going to let them play it out.

If you own a business, the best practice is to get them out and move on. I'm sure Padilla feels the same.
