Story: Michigan Transfer Oliver Martin Checks Out Iowa

When OM chose Michigan, Iowa was between WR coaches. Kennedy had been canned and Copeland had yet to be hired.

OM actually knew and liked what he had heard of Copeland at that time. He had connected with former NFL WR Don Beebe, winning MVP honors at his camp. Beebe sent his son to play at NIU, where Copeland was coaching.

Kennedy was the main reason Iowa held off so long on offering OM. Reese Morgan wanted to do it earlier. Greg Davis didn't help matters.

Had OM known that Copeland was going to be the Iowa WR coach, he may have come here out of the shoot.

Better late than never, as they say. I think he's going to be a great addition to the program. He's a blue-collar kid that doesn't like attention. Perfect fit here.

I think that is all water under the bridge now. I think Martin is gonna turn into a fan favorite before all is said and done with his career in the black and gold. I think most of the vitriol that was aimed at him was because people wanted him so badly as he was a top recruit at a position for need for Iowa.

I think the football players should have a committee of elected representative players, who would serve as the "Coaching Portal" to approve or disapprove of coaching moves, and how such moves might affect the players who were given "promises" by said coaches who want to leave. Coach...you are denied! Why, this makes no sense. Correct.

Sitting out a year sucks for Oliver, but what if he would have stayed at Michigan another year knowing he wanted to transfer to Iowa eventually.

Where would his head be when Iowa played at Michigan this year?

Playing another year at Michigan does nothing to prep him for success at Iowa in 2 years. It really goes to show how bad he wants to be here to make this decision tho. It's on par with Uthoff paying his own way just to play here instead of Wisconsin. Decisions like this are rare and hell yea fans should (and will) welcome him with open arms.

If he is a humble kid, which seems to be the case, he doesn't fit in at Michigan.

Too bad you can't have the same rule for transfers that the new redshirts get. Let them play in a maximum of 4 games total.

That is, if they did not previously redshirt, or in Martin's case, did not previously play in any games in his redshirt season.

Uthoff is an excellent comp. Even down to their personalities.

As I stated in the other OM thread I can only remember him playing once and barely. I can't remember if it was SMU or Western Michigan. He played in all 13 games last year so I was either drunk or have some sort of ADD, AHD or some shit like that not to recall seeing him play more.

I compare the OM situation to dating. You have an opportunity to date a 10, a smokeshow(and yes I am waaay too old to use the word "smokeshow") and you just can't pass it up. Then you realize the 10 wasn't all that it was cracked up to be and you are happier with the 7 that is funnier and smarter and occasionally can be a 9 on certain days.:)

I remember watching a nature documentary about a sloth that hears a mating call from a really attractive sloth, but the female sloth is a long ways away. By the time the sloth swims over to where he heard the call, the female sloth already has a baby. But then the sloth hears another mating call and can swim to meet his next partner. In a way, we are are sloths swimming through the water of the recruiting process, looking for that perfect good looking smoke show sloth with the attractive mating call.
