Ladies and gentlemen, I'll be brief. The issue here is not whether we broke a few rules, or took a few liberties with our female party guests - we did.......it is not like the poor guy bet on his own team. If you blame him, then shouldn't we blame the whole NCAA system? And if the whole NCAA system is guility, then isn't this isn't this an indictment of our educational institutions in general? I put it to you, Greg - isn't this an indictment of our entire American society? Well, you can do whatever you want with him, but we're not going to sit here and listen to you badmouth the United States of America. Gentlemen!

He did the crime, I am fine with whatever the punishment is.... that said, the real bullshit here is it appears that only 2 schools from the state of Iowa were targetted and I would like to see an even playing field.

The NCAA has no independent investigative arm so they are totally reliant on third party sources for investigative material. A Yahoo news story is what got USC put on probation and voided their natty and some other website broke the story about the Ohio players getting tattoos. Only Iowa is dumb enough as a state to let some do gooder blow up the premier athletic departments in the state.

Well played

He bet on another UI team.

That's the rub.
What gets me with the NCAA and has my complete angst, is how random the NCAA is when deciding these situations. There is no consistency and they are so subjective with their decisions and choosing to be pretty lenient with some universities while using others as examples. Some universities have had much worse scandals such as Penn St., Baylor, Rick Pitino, etc. who don't really have to pay the price they should.

I get that Noah broke a rule and bet on another UofIowa team, but is a full year really fair? Would the top D lineman at Alabama or Georgia get a full year, hell no. It's that inconsistency that drives me f'ing nuts and I wish the NCAA would just go away.

I would agree with you, but I am still angry that the German’s bombed Pearl Harbor

Are you really saying that Penn State did not pay a price? Here was the punishment levied:

$60 million fine, a four-year postseason ban, scholarship reductions, five years probation and a vacation of all victories from 1998 to 2011.

Now, a lot of that got pulled back once a lawsuit was filed, and the NCAA likely did overstep its authority, but you cannot say they did not at least try and lay the wood on PSU in the wake of the Sandusky scandal.

They didn't end up having to meet near what you have in bold. My point. Trying to "lay the wood" and going thru with it are two very different things. In addition, compare the allegations of the two situations. Disgusting.

It's not really the NCAA that is inconsistent here. The rules are pretty black and white on gambling and were put in place then communicated to the players. My rub is that the rules are too harsh in today's environment.

Also, as many inside and outside the program have said, this only happened because a state agency decided to dig into this to see what they could find. Iowa should NOT be the only state to have this type of investigation.

The NCAA is made up of people. I do not know who those people are, but I do know that I can find out the name of every judge in a real court of law. Given the track record of the NCAA people I think the people that came to this conclusion need to have to explain it in person, and before cameras, and microphones. We don't know their qualifications for making decisions of this nature and what conflicts of interest they would have. A simple reprimand would be adequate punishment.
