Story ideas

Hey guys. Since the DI is planning to put out some football features this week, I'm just fishing for some ideas. I've got a couple in mind already, but what are some things, or who are some people you're interested in learning more about coming out of spring practice? Feel free to post any ideas you have here, or PM me if you prefer to do so.

Since it has been awhile since we had different offensive and defensive coordinators, I would like an article on what past O and D coordinators results were in their first season with the Hawkeyes.

I'd like to know who is/are considered the team leader(s). In the good years, the Hawks have had some very strong personalities leading the team, e.g., Bob Sanders/Robert Gallery in '03; Dallas Clark/Brad Banks in '02; Mitch King in '08; Angerer in '09, to name a few. In the down years, not so much, while there were good players, they didn't have that intangible element. College football, still, has an emotional factor to it, and needs those 1 or 2 guys that everyone respects and feeds off of. Does Iowa have that guy this year? If so, who is it, and why? Morris? Vandenberg?

Talk to Levar and Brian about how they expect to change recruiting. Or Levar about recruiting and Brian about his input on the tight ends. Maybe get some quotes from Gronk and Hernandez. You have the opportunity to improve recruiting with the right story. Try and get quotes from NFL coaches and players about the program. Come on Tork!

I'll just state the obvious and go with the 3 ferentz's at 3 different levels of their lives and how they interact together. How their relationship may have changed with Brian on staff.

I would like to know more about Jake Rudock, as he is just one unfortunate play from being the " next man in". no offense to JVB or Sokol, but I think Jake is the key to some very successful s
easons

How about a story on the new practice facility? The information about it on the Hawkeye website is limited and the video does not go into detail. Indoor 100 yard field, meeting room, and weight room is all it mentions and shows. What about players lounge, locker room improvements, ect ect? Is this thing going to be state of the art or they just getting bare bones?

How about, "drafted players does not equal on field success". Obviously, this will be another great year for players to be drafted out of the University of Iowa. I'm sure the graphic will show the 3rd of 4th most in the last three years. We could have 6-7 players drafted again...Prater, Reiff, Gettis, Bernstine, Daniels, Binns, Zus?

Yet our record the past two years is a couple games over .500. Where is the shortcoming? Coaching? Bad Luck? Lack of speed? Lack of Mopeds?

The Ferentz story sounds interesting, so does the leadership idea.

Personally, I would like to see where are they now type of piece that looks back at past Hawkeye greats and what they have been doing. What are the Hilgenberg's up to these days. What about Nick Bell, Rob Houghtlin, or Randy Duncan?

I like the fact the coaches seem to be more accessible thus far since the new coaches came onboard. I would like to see that continue. I am definitely interested in learning more about Davis, specifically how we plan to get "more speed" as far as receivers.

This, the website is horrible on details of this facility. Someone had a link to Tennessee's new facility. Whoever put together their website did an awsome job. You would think that a recruiting tool like this ,marketing could put together something that sizzles.

The three Ferentz's has to be done at some point. It's an unusual dynamic and I can't think of any other situation like it in football (though I'm sure someone else will).

I'd also like to hear more about LeVar and Brian and how they will affect recruting but I don't think you're going to get any answers of substance.

David Raih and Mary Ferentz have done a lot of work on the Iowa Ladies Football Academy. It would be nice to hear about their efforts and the work that goes into that fundraiser.

Please, whatever you do, do not miss another chance to talk about the fact that the whole O Line is made up of Iowans or that James Morris is the second coming. We've only had 298 articles on these two topics so clearly we need another.

How about an under cover investigative piece?

"Up Close with Mrs. Vandenburg, getting inside the woman behind Iowa's starting QB"
