I think I have successfully wiped this crummy football season from the memory banks and I don't care about the bowl game anymore.

I want to focus on this basketball program. I think we have the right coach (finally) and we really do have some interesting players on this team. And we are really young.

Stormin, can we beat Wake? What do others think? Am I jumping the gun here, grasping at straws?

Don't the games against UNI and ISU (at home) and a game at crummy Drake start to look a little bit winnable?

Give me some hope. I bought some basketball tickets today!!

I'm no expert but look at how WF has done thus far. Wins against hampton, elon, and marist. Losses to Stetson, Virginia Commonwealth, and winthrop. We're definitely not overmatched. I think we have a legit shot to get a win for the B10.
 
Well, I like the way you think. Hope springs eternal with a good coach. I think Coach Fran is the real deal.

One thing this football season taught me is how little I truly know about Division I sports. I thought I knew some things after 45 years of watching Iowa teams compete, but in reality I do not.

I do know one thing: the line between winning and losing sometimes is razor thin at the Big Ten level. Perhaps Coach Fran can be the difference.
 
I definitely believe the Wake Forest game is winnable. They (like Alabama) have more talent than us but have really underperformed. It's also our first true road game.

There isn't a game before B10 play that I don't think we have a good chance of winning... big stretch for Fran!
 
Should be a good game, this Wake Forest team is not the team of old from Winston. They get passed over on every conversation here in NC. We have three good/great teams and they are the forgotten child.

Looking at their wins and losses, we should certainly be right in this game and I am predicting a 8 point win. We get a boost from the high scoring game against SIU-E
 
Definitely a winnable game, it's just difficult to predict this squad due to their youth and inconsistency.

They go from beating an Alabama team to losing to The Beach. They are unpredictable, esp this early in the season.

I like Cartwright at the point, and I think Marble can be serviceable as his backup in that role.

Iowa has lost to teams with less talent and they have beaten teams with more talent. Really depends on who shows up and how the game flows.

Is the game winnable? Absolutely. Wake is the worst team in a down ACC.

I'm concerned about how the Hawkeyes respond in their first true road game. I think it will be a battle. A winnable battle, though.
 
Like with Bama, Wake has some highly rated young talent that is still trying to adjust to college ball. An opportunity for the Hawks,if they come out sharp,to steal a win for the Big Ten....time for Iowa to chip in on this series again.

Yes, Iowa can beat Wake, but the one thing this young team has proven they can't handle success by losing the next game after each win.
The in-state games are all very winnable if this team can make the easy buckets, cut down some TO's and improve from the free throw line. Not a huge task, but cannot happen overnight.
I agree we have the right coach in place and we won't be down for too long.
 
You have to keep in mind that in the three losses they shot less than 36% from the field and under 30% from 3. The last win, they shot well over 50% and 55% from 3. Early in any season there is always some inconsistancy in shooting. If they can shoot anywhere close to 50% from the field they can win. Their rebounding has been decent and they share the ball very well. I think the trip to the islands will actually help them deal with a road game to Wake. Would love to see them over .500 even if its only for a short time.
 
We can win this game. Wake Forest is absolutely terrible (like us) however, I don't know if this team is ready to win a road game let alone one vs a major conference.

Alabama begs to differ. Neutral site, I know, but still.
 
50/50 with the wild card being home-court for Wake Forest. The two cellar dwellers in their respective conferences. Sagarin has Wake about 180 and Iowa about 130.
