Stop Whining and Cherish these last 3 games with Stanzi

God I'm tired of this message board. All of the whining and complaining about our football team. Is it possible that NW simply was the better team, or at least had a "career" day from Persa to beat us? Why cry over spilled milk?

We should enjoy 3 more games with one of the best QBs Iowa will ever have, Rick Stanzi. Here are the stats:

1. Iowa's record the past 3 years is 27-9 (.750 winning percentage), with two bowl championships and wins over Top 5 teams on three occasions. This compares favorably with any other QB in the history of Iowa football.
2. We will play in a third bowl game, with the opportunity to do something no Iowa team has ever done: Win 3 consecutive bowl games.
3. Stanzi is an incredible young man and a great leader. He has led us to game-winning drives numerous times ('08 Penn State, '09 Penn State, '09 Indiana and '10 Indiana and '10 Michigan come to mind, to name a few). He is humble and never blames anyone except himself when we lose.

I am so proud of this team and this program. Yes, losing Saturday was disappointing (I was there). But we still have Ohio State, Minnesota and a big bowl game ahead of us. I am excited to see how we do. Win or lose, I'm proud to be a Hawkeye.

I'm not really sure what you are bent about. I don't think very many people were asking for Stanzi to be demoted from the starting job postion. He does make some seriously stupid mistakes that a 5th yr player shouldn't make (sacks and picks) but most people are unhappy with the OC and the QB coach (one in the same).

Lighten up Francis.

I think you should lighten up, Francis. Many of our players read these message boards. There is nothing wrong with our coaching staff. Stanzi is ranked third in the nation in passer rating. Third!!! We were beaten by a better team Saturday that played lights out.

Deal with it, Dude. You will live a long time before you see a better QB at Iowa.

Maybe you could find something more constructive to do with your time than calling out message board posters that don't say things that fall right in line with your thinking. Our team just ****** away a Big 10 championship and possible Rose Bowl berth against an inferior opponent while playing less than inferior football. Forgive those of us with a pulse for being a little upset about it. How do I know they're inferior? Just take a look at NFL rosters and tell me how many Hawks you see vs how many Wildcats you see.

By the way, you state that we will live a long time before we see a better QB than Stanzi. I'm thinking I only have to live one more year and I'll see a QB (Vandenberg) who is at least equal to Stanzi.

Let it go. Just let it go. The game is over. We lost. Deal with it.

Focus on Ohio State. We can beat them.

We'll get a chance to see how good Vandenberg is next year. I hope he is as good as Stanzi. We'll see, won't we?

You are on to something about getting off of this message board. I'm going to follow your advice - it seems like a waste of time with all of the whining and complaining. Very few people are making constructive comments. It's a shame, frankly, because this is a good program.

Regardless of ChosenChildren's intent on this post, I agree with everything he says about Ricky. Stanzi is the Manzi, and I am proud to wear a #12 jersey to the game on Saturday.

If you think that Northwestern is a better team than Iowa I can no longer take anything you say seriously, even if your OP did have some merit.

People NW wasn't the better team, but they did out coach us, and actually it was our D that was responsible. Sure Stanzi's late int hurt and was Atypical of our ball control O up to that point but read this post

the fact shat we didn't change to a Nickle or Dime package cost us the game, not this crap about they had more heart or were better than us ( we know we recruit better athletes than NW)

Yes but before that, if we didn't throw the interception, we wouldn't have had to worry about switching defenses. Run 2-3 more minutes off the clock and Northwestern wouldn't have had time to score twice. Not to mention we may have scored.

It is cause and effect. You say it was the defense and I say it was the interception. We are both right..

Sometimes the better team loses. We lost to a good NW team, on their field, on their senior day. They played a great game. Give them credit. Show some class and sportsmanship.

Criticizing the players is BS. Criticizing the coaching staff - I get that. They are paid to win.

My Epic Fail is spending time on this board right now What a bunch of whining losers.

You'll all be back on the bandwagon when we win another big game. This is nothing more than a "what have you done for me lately" crowd.

Making negative posts on an anonymous basis doesn't impress me much. At least Jon Miller has to sign his name when he makes comments. I respect him for that.

This is a very good Iowa team. Great? No. We are too young at linebacker and cornerback. Deal with it.

I appreciate everything that Stanzi, Clayborn, Klug, Greenwood, Reisner, DJK, Vandervelde, Morse, Ballard, Donahue, and Hunter have done for our team.

I also am really appreciative of Sandeman too ... I think that his contributions get marginalized out-of-hand by fans. I think that his absence was felt against NU.

Really? I thought his substitute on punt returns fair-caught and non-returned just as effectively as Sandeman does.

He also dropped passes as effectively as Sandeman.......oh wait, Sandeman has been a reliable receiver underneath this year. Colin is also what, 3rd in the Big Ten in punt return average?

Your trend of going off of your "gut-feeling" rather than parsing the data continues ....

I would think that Stephen Colbert's sense of humor would enlighten you.

Thunderhawk, you might be the epic fail ---

P.S. Wondering if you have ever played competitive sports? I'm guessing no. Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm guessing no. Coach or play on a team at any level - sometimes you lose because the other guy just beat you. It actually happens. Those experiences give you perspective later.

Excellent post. Honestly, I'm not sure that Thunderhawk has stopped drinking since Saturday afternoon.

Agree. And yes, we missed Colin Sandeman,Tarp,Gettis,McMillan and Nielsen.

Ricky has been a great qb for Iowa, and this senior class has been great.
Enjoy them 3 more times,Iowa fans, as it can still be one of the great 3 year runs in Iowa history, with a share of the Big Ten title still possible. Beat the Bucks..Go Hawks!!
