Stokes now on scholarship





Good for him. Is he a JR?

That is great, he has worked hard for the Hawks and it is refreshing to see a kid like him get rewarded.
 










I was wondering if this might happen. Pick one of the senior walk ons (I believe Darius is a senior this year) and give them the scholly. After all .. it won't be lost next year.

I think he is in the same class as Marble but red shirted. But maybe they have played him all four years.
 


My friend played in the men's basketball golf event earlier this week. He said he ran into Fran at one point and chatted him up. Fran mentioned he thought he'd go 12 deep this year, and added he thought he might have the deepest team in the country. I was assuming Meyer was probably the 12th man, but you think it could be Stokes? I didn't really pay attention to minutes on the European trip...Meyer play more than Stokes?
 






Darius has worked extremely hard in the weight room and on the court since coming to IA and although he did not get a lot of minutes last season, he was one of the first in so I would not be surprised at all to see him ahead of Meyer on depth charts at this particular stage...especially if they try to extend full-court press 25-35min/gm.

I would be fine with that but Fran may have awarded it to Darius with the understanding it might not be there for him next year. Like anybody else scholarships are renewed every year.
 


I'm just guessing here, but since Darius is a RS Junior, could it be that he's on pace to graduate in 4 so getting him on scholly for his academic senior season was a reward and then he'll be back next season as a walk-on while doing graduate work?

Edit: Almost forgot...congratulations Darius!

Im pretty sure he is ahead of Myer.
 


Brother please. Darius Stokes is not a big ten basketball player and he is not ahead of Meyer. He is a walk on who got rewarded when they didn't fill Ingrams scholly, that's it. And Fran ain't going with 12 despite whatever he may or may not have told some dudes friend.

This times one million...congrats to Darius, he deserves it for working so hard...but he's not a BIG role player even...
