Stern vs Popovich

So the problem is the fans didn't get to see the stars play and your solution is to suspend them for the next game so more fans don't get to see them play? You're a real ******* genius I tell you.

This is really all the Spurs fault though, if they weren't so good at finding international gems like Parker and Ginobili they could be more like the Bucks, then the fans wouldn't want to see them play no matter which players they sent out.

Why should players get to pick and choose when they dress and when they don't? Hell if 82 games is too much for them maybe they should give these poor tired players a shorter season so they don't over do it. All I'm saying is that the NBA is criticized for a regular season that means absolutely nothing. Crap like this does nothing to help the image of the league and whether or not you agree it is nothing more than a slap in the face to the league and its fans. I see nothing wrong with sitting a player here or there for fatigue, but don't sit multiple players on the same night to the point where it depletes the product that people are paying to good money to watch.

And while I guess I'm a genius I guess your a liar if you honestly expect us to believe this wouldn't bother you if you paid to see this game.

So if they're not playing at least go through the motions and show up like you care about the fans that paid to see you. I get being tired and understand that life on the road can be tiring, but guess what thats what they're paid for. These are in fact the same fans that are paying their salaries.

You keep talking about this as if this was the players decision....it wasn't. I guarantee you that they'd rather play than not....especially against the defending champs. Once again, it was Pop's decision, based on what he felt was in the best interest of his team, long term. And he is on record stating that he made this decision back in July when he saw the schedule and saw that his team was being forced to play 4 games in 5 nights on the road. And once again, why should Pop give a $hit what the fans of Miami think or what they paid? I fail to see where his fiduciary responsibility to the fans of Miami lies....

He's making a mockery of the league. Like I said there is the notion that the NBA's regular season is too long and meaningless so what's he do to prove the critics right, he sends 4 of his top 5 home on a roadtrip. I'm not even talking a fiduciary responsibility to the fans of Miami, I'm talking about the fans in general. While the season may be meaningless and too long, the league needs these extra games to continue to produce the revenues to pad the pockets of the league and the players. If coaches are going to take it upon themselves to contribute into that myth by putting an inferior product on the court then it does negatively affect the integrity of the league. Stern's side is the fact that as commishioner of the league he has to look out for the the integrity of the league and its not right for a coach to intentionally dilute the product by sending 4 of his top 5 scorers home early while on a road trip.

It's a bush league move by Pop. If people wanted to watch backups they'd go to a D-League game. They pay to see the best players in the league not backups and role players.

Pop's goal is to win a title, not sell tickets for the Heat. If they can't sell out with the team they have, that's a Miami problem. The Spurs have put a quality team on the court for the last 20 years, why not put sanctions on the Wizards, Bucks, Clippers, Bobcats, Warriors and any other team that runs out a garbage squad year after year?

Actually he isn't he is being smart and not wearing his vet team down early in the year. Stop acting like a whiny ***** just like the lazy whiny commissioner.

Yet they couldn't seem to the other night. So your saying it would be fine if the Wizards, Bucks, Clippers, Bobcats, Warriors or anyother team that isn't an elite squad. It's not acceptable for any team to throw games to secure a better lottery position, but hey I guess it makes perfectly good sense for "elite" teams to throw a game here and there if it means keeping their old roster fresh to make a post season run. Don't get me wrong it makes perfect sense to keep the players fresh for the playoffs, but from a league perspective its a joke. The Spurs schedule is no different than any team in the league, but you don't see the other team benching 4 of their top 5 scorers for the sake of keeping them fresh.

The **** you talking about Willis? They almost beat the defending champs on the road, they put a high quality team out there, just because they didn't have their big names guys out there, didn't mean it wasn't a good team. The Spurs backups are just as good as a lot of crappy teams. Why doesn't Stern get involved with teams that consistently fail to put a quality product on the court? Why should Golden St fans be stuck watching crappy teams year after year? San Antonio gets fined $250k for resting their starters yet Stern's buddy MJ runs out a god awful Bobcats team for 66 games last year and never gets fined.

I'll agree, I didn't mean it to the point that they had no talent. Lets be honest though, Pop had no intention of winning that game going into Miami. My problem with it as I have said all along is the fact that it doens't look good for the league. If Pop's that concerned that he feels he needs to start resting players this early in the year then he's got some problems and needs to do something about an aging roster.

The only problem I have with your thoughts on the inferior teams in the league is the fact that they just suck. They're not sitting starters and as bad as they may be they are still trying to put their best efforts on the court to compete. All I'm saying is I think it was a weak move from an organizational standpoint, not in terms of coaching standpoint, and it doesn't look good for the league prospective.

On a side note, I won't touch the MJ part as I agree with you completely. I wasn't a fan of his when he played and think its absolutely disgusting what he's doing in Charlotte.
