Stern vs Popovich

Who ya got? I think it's bs that a commissioner should tell a coach who he can or can't play in order for ratings. Pop has a history of sitting his stars at the end of road trips and now it's suddenly a problem...GTFO

Especially BS on Stern's part since this was the Spurs' 4th game in 5 days (or something like that), while the Heat had a home game after 3 or 4 days off.

I really wish the Spurs had won. How moronic would Stern look then after his "substantial sanctions" threat. He has no say in who a coach plays and any kind of fine will be overturned on appeal.

So heres an idea, why not sit his starters at Toronto on Sunday rather then heat? 82 games is too many, but it's not just the commissioner that wants that many games but team owners as well. Cost the nba money and yea I guess it makes sense fining them 40,000. Nothing beyond a fine though.

Both Heat and Raptors are eastern conference so idk, maybe Popovich was rewarding his team with the series wins stringed together. Definitely a smart strategy considering amount of games in few days, however I don't see a problem fining them either. Suck to be a fan to pay money for tickets for a matchup you expect to be see to top teams.

Because if you are going to only play them one game you wan't to take the sure win versus potentially losing both.

Stern can't tell a coach who he can and can't play. That is a true threat to the integrity of the game. I love that Pop got under Sterns skin.

Pop already decided back in July that he was going to sit them for this game. This wasn't just something he decided at the last minute. I hate Stern and can't wait until he is out of sports for forever.

The Spurs did this last year (see below). Worked then. :)

Stern is an idiot if he think he is going to put big sanctions on the Spurs for doing this one game. Heck he has allowed teams to stink up the place in hopes of getting the top pick i drafts.

Hey spliff, have you stopped beating your wife yet?

If he decided this back in July did he tell the Heat fans about so they would not buy tickets to the game? This is the only time San Antonio comes to Miami during the season. I would be ****** if I dropped $$$ to take my family to a game against a "quality" opponent only to find out on the way to the arena that the 4 best players on the other team aren't even in town (sent back to SA).

Would it be okay for Miami to do this? How about if when Miami plays the Lakers they decide to send LeBron, Wade, Ray Allen, and Chris Bosh home before the game? Do you think there might be some disappointed kids as Miami only plays the Lakers once in LA.

Why should Pop give a $hit what Miami fans feel? His responsibility is to his players and his team. The commish has no grounds or basis to tell a coach who he can or can't play in a game. It's a$$inine that we're even discussing this....

Won't someone please think of the children!?!!!

Seriously, tough **** for the kids who were dying to see Danny Green play and instead only got to see LeBron, Bosh and Wade. Would it be better if he waited until the Spurs had a home game to sit Duncan so the little kid from San Antonio who dreamt about the day he finally would get to see Timmy live had to watch DeJaun Blair instead.

Should NBA teams even be allowed to sit any of their starters? People don't come to NBA games to see the scrubs play, from now on Stern should mandate all NBA starters play all 48 mins.

My issue is that its not fair to the fans that are paying to see them. If Pop was going to sit them and had already made the decision before the season started thats one thing, but if he just recently decided to do it it's another. People pay to see the superstars and it's not fair to them to see an inferior product because the coach decided they didn't need to be playing. IMO if they're fatigured then I see no reason why Stern shouldn't sit them their next game for doing this if it was a last minute decision.

I get what your saying, but maybe they did want to see Lebron, Wade, and Bosh and not the Spurs players who didn't make the trip. The fact is, the price of tickets jumped because of the demand for this game and people still paid those high prices to see what they thought would be a great game. Instead they get to pay extra to see the home team play a team losing 4 of thier top 5 scorers and also get to pay extra to do so.

Hypothetically what would your thoughts be if you were going to a concert and after your tickets were purchased you found out that of the two bands headlining the concert, one would be there but the other was going to send a cover band instead. Your paying to see the top players in the league, not to see fill ins while the "stars" of one team take a night off. I'd be ******.

So the problem is the fans didn't get to see the stars play and your solution is to suspend them for the next game so more fans don't get to see them play? You're a real ******* genius I tell you.

This is really all the Spurs fault though, if they weren't so good at finding international gems like Parker and Ginobili they could be more like the Bucks, then the fans wouldn't want to see them play no matter which players they sent out.

So if they're not playing at least go through the motions and show up like you care about the fans that paid to see you. I get being tired and understand that life on the road can be tiring, but guess what thats what they're paid for. These are in fact the same fans that are paying their salaries.
