+/- stat

You're getting down to 30-90 second sample sizes at that point. You aren't going to be pulling much reliable data at that point.

Cross refence with other games of similar groupings and you can determine what to expect. Pros do it a lot and there are some very good teams that really use plus minus as a bible.

Like I said before I do think there is a lot of value in +/- ratings by line up over large sample sizes. Is there any site that keeps those stats besides synergy type pay services?

Yet stauskas worked him over. He is bad defensively struggles to stay in front of threes.

In fairness josh was on him for about 1 possession in the 2nd game and got burnt back door and Fran saw enough that he switched it up immediately.

for the record I wouldn't define either as a good defender.

If you do your own cross referencing like I do them statsheet.com gives +/- stats for individuals and you can put the line ups together using their graphs.

Ogelsby is more consistent. And he is better. On the wing marble is the best but he also takes plays off which bugs me, but he is the best wing defender and gesell and clemmons are next on the wing. Gesell is the best on ball defender. Basabe and woody are the best down low.

I would have to put it together as I do it off the cuff very rough stuff.

Are you using adjusted +/-?

I know even adjusted +/- is up to debate. They say NBA teams kind of steer clear until the have maybe 3 seasons of data. And some stats guys are finding all that does is make a flawed stat still flawed.

It is really hard to strip out individual play in bball due to so many variables

I use it more to look for tendencies. Such as I have noticed we are typically a minus when marble is playing the pg. which doesn't mean he should never play pg but that we are using it for too long of stretches or putting the wrong guys around him when he is at pg.

think of it like this yesterday marble had 21 pts and 11 assts. but as I look at his game time I notice he had negative plus/minus values while playing pg. but this is while Jo was on the court and jo had a 17 pt game. Also the center during these times is typically olaseni who a lot of internet geniuses say is better than woody. That is telling to me.

i don't think it can be used just for individual players but it is interesting to look at for individual players. The key is to use it with groupings of players.

Yeah I hear ya. I wonder if the ball just never gets moved quite as much if Marble is initiating the offense. When Mike starts a set he is looking to pass and defer. When Marble has the ball maybe others get stuck watching a tad letting Marble try to create offense.

Who knows. I like Marble playing off the ball with the ability to go get the ball and create if need be.

One thing to consider is that if Marble is at the point, that means that Gessel is not in the game. The vast majority of Gesell's minutes come with Marble on the court. You see this a lot in the NBA where guys who anchor bench units like Marble does a lot have lower +/- ratings.
