Stat comparison btw 86-87 team and this team VERY similar

I dont know. The 95/96 team was loaded. Finished 23-9 losing to Arizona in the 2nd round. Settles, Millard, Woolridge, Kingsbury, Murray, Bowen, Glasper. They were preseason #5 in the Sporting News. Beat #1 UCONN. They got a 6 seed at 22-8 and ended up playing 3 seed Arizona in Tempe in the tournament. ******** draw

Doug Thomas didnt start for that team.

And that team beat MSU and OSU in the regular season before beating them both in the B1G tourney. They hardly played out of their minds for one weekend.

If that team had Pierce they would have won the B1G and been a #1 seed in the tourney.

'Cuz Mike Henderson was such a huge step up from Doug Thomas.

...and I didn't say that getting hot for one weekend was all they accomplished. I said that they were a sixth seed-level team who played themselves up. I stand by that.

'13-'14 is much better than '05-'06.

So you were wrong? Not that hard to admit it.

I never said that.

i'm just commenting on what you posted. the talent nor the coaching could touch the 86/87 team. and our talent/depth on the current team doesn't match up either. and that is not meant to be a slight to the current team.

keep in mind also - generally speaking the big ten was 'down' in the alfred era compared to what it was in the mid to late 80s. you think the big 10 is good now? as good as iowa was in 86/87, they finished 3rd in the league. 3rd. 30-5 overall, 14-4 in the Big Ten. And that team was LOADED.

Go back and read what I was replying to. The 86/87 team is one of the best teams ever at Iowa, no question about it. Jack mentioned this years team was the best since the 86/87, I disagreed saying that some of Alfords teams were as good (as this years team). Alfords teams under achieved and I agree with everything you say about the Big Ten being down back then, they should have won the Big Ten at least once during that period.

So, IMO, this is best team Iowa has had since the 05/06 team.

and no chance that alfred had a team that was nearly as good as this team. just no depth. and talent was pretty limited, to put it nicely. i'm not trying to argue with you - just responding to your post - i didn't read thru the whole series of posts.

I disagree. I don't think the 05-06 team belongs anywhere in this discussion. If we're talking about teams post 86-87 and before this team, it should be the 92-93 team that was steamrolling until Street died. Or the 98-99 team that made the Sweet 16 and nearly beat the eventual National Champion UConn Huskies.

That's much better, I can work with that.

You put Marble in with Hansen, Horner, Brunner, and Haluska (instead of Henderson) that team might have gone all the way (with Fran coaching ofc). On the flip side if you add Haluska to this years team and I think you have something special on this years team as well. Tough for me to argue with you on the depth, Alfords teams never went that deep.

Aw come on, NO WHERE NEAR? Even with Alford coaching they still ended up 25-9, 2nd in the Big Ten, won the BTT, with a 3 seed in the NCAA tournament. I think you put Fran in as coach (or even Mr. Davis) and they would have won the Big Ten and went deep into the NCAA tournament.
