What is Ricky's record in games he has started and finished? Obviously not counting when he was pulled because we were winning comfortably. Either had to leave the game for injury or was rotating with JC back in 2008. Here is what I come up with

2008: 6-3...first 4 games him and JC both played so I started with the conference opener against NW, which is when I think Stanzi took over full time.

2009: 11-0...only 2 losses were NW when he left in the 2nd quarter with ankle injury and at OSU when he did not play at all.

2010: 2-0...EIU and ISU.

So by my count he is 19-3 as a starter and has not lost since 2008 at Illinois when he plays the entire game or is removed because of a comfortable lead.

This is another reason we should have confidence in this team out in the desert Saturday night. We have a bunch of veteran leaders and arguably our best leader plays the Quarterback position. GO HAWKS!!!

I had posted this last night......Stanzi is 16-0 in his last 16 games he has started and finished starting with the PSU game in 2008. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that no Iowa QB in history has ever had a stretch where they went 16-0.

My bad, did not see your thread. Sorry Rawk!!

I would say you are right though, 16-0 is impressive.

What about when he was pulled from struggling, like in 2008 vs ISU?

I thought that him and JC both knew going into the first 4 games of 2008 that they would both be playing, so i threw those 4 games out.

Also 2008 @Pittsburgh, JC looked atrocious and I would argue that had Stanzi played the 2nd half we would have won that game. That was brutal, and we did not see JC the rest of his career here.

After the Pitt games was the turning point... I always put that as his starting point in my book because before that it was planned that JC and him would both take snaps.

You had to bring up that Pitt game, huh? Man that game gave me a bad feeling in my gut.

I agree. That was the single most frustrating Iowa game I have ever watched. More frustrating than the early Ferentz years when we were getting pounded. In 1999 and 2000 we either didnt have a lot of talent or our talent was very young and not ready to be out there.

In 2008 at Pittsburgh, it was obvious we did not have our best QB playing the entire 2nd half and the coaches were not going to take JC out. We lost a very winnable game because of that. It all worked out in the end and if you told me that we would lose the Pitt game and then finish '08 like we did and have the kind of success we are experiencing now, I would take it 100% of the time.

Are you forgetting that he did not play against Minnesota. I think that puts this at 10-0. Unless Iowa played 14 games last year and I missed one!

No. After the 2nd game of the year, it was determined Slingin' Dick had won the job. However, he struggled vs ISU and they brought Jake in during the 4th quarter. The only reason Jake played at Pitt is because of Slingin' Dick's struggles the week before.

Ok...i dont remember the exact details, but this could be what happened. I didnt count either game and I said that it was games Stanzi started and finished, except for the ones where he was pulled because we had a comfortable lead.

Didn't the coaches get upset with Ricky at the end of the 1st half against Pitt? They wanted to run the clock out and he had other ideas. I think that is the reason JC played the whole 2nd half against Pitt.

Stanzi's played well. This Arizona game does worry me, but I think the team is focused and prepared. My only worry is that, in the words of Ferentz, the team will "play the game in their heads" and tire themselves out before the game.

But having experienced players will hopefully keep the team fresh and ready for a big game.

This game is going to be won or loss on whether or not Iowa shows up to play. The weather/temperature, the crowd, the time change will all play a small secondary role, if anything.

Ricky started vs ISU in 2008 and Iowa won..with Jake coming in late and helping Iowa pull out the win.
So he was 7-3 in 2008.
He was 11-1 in 2009, including the NW game.
He is 2-0 in 2010..
That is 20-4 in games started.
If you include games started but not finished due to injury...20-3 If you include all games started but not finished due to injury and performance he is 19-3, as the Pitt game he started but was pulled.

I am just going with the 20-4...it is very simple to cite his overall record as a starter.
His four losses? Pitt,MSU,and NW twice....arrrgh...

Stanzi did not start against Pitt in 2008. Jake C. did. In games that Stanzi started, he lost the Michigan State game in 2008, the Northwestern game in 2008 and the Illinois game in 2008 and then the Northwestern game in 2009. Stanzi started 10 out of the 13 games in 2008. He didn't start against Maine, Florida International and Pittsburgh. He started against Iowa State but Jake Christensen came in for him late 3rd quarter/early 4th quarterly and led us to victory.

In Stanzi's last 16 career starts that he got to finish the game (exclude the Northwestern game last year) Stanzi is 16-0.

Actually Slingin' Dick did start the FIU game in 2008. The only 2 he didn't start in 2008 were Maine and Pitt. He started 11 games in 2008, going 8-3. He started 11 games last year going 10-1. And 2 this year going 2-0. Total record as a starter of 20-4. Not sure why people are trying to tweak numbers using only games where he finished. IMO if you do that you have to give credit to Jake for ISU in 2008 if you give James the loss vs NW in 2009. 20-4 is impressive enough without tweaking numbers
