How many reps did Stanzi get ahead of Palko last year? yeah...zero. They kept Stanzi because his $ number is lower...and he has potential...and, oh yeah, Palko sucks. He didn't beat out Palko last year, otherwise he would have played. Or maybe they were just saving the Rickmeister for this year...pretty saavy move by the Chiefs.

Actually it's pretty common knowledge for anyone who follows the Chiefs that Pioli didn't want to throw Stanzi into a bad situation that early in his career. The first game after Cassel was injured was against the Patriots, the second against the Steelers. Not exactly an ideal situation to have your rookie QB who had no no offseason start his first games 3/4 through the season against 2 of the best teams in the league.

So, do you think that Stanzi getting promoted right away once Haley got canned was a coincidence? There was a power struggle in KC last year and Stanzi was a piece in it. He was clearly better than Palko in preseason on the field, but for whatever reason he was not rushed out on the field.
You can't always tell exactly what happened in a game from reading the box score.
