When are we going to get receivers with speed so they can separate? When are we going to get receivers who can find the 'soft spot' in the defense? When are we going to get receivers who won't try to catch the ball with their knee?
Could Wegher be an answer? Could the recruit from the state of Michigan be an answer?

DJK can separate. The "Z" route he ran the other night was a thing of beauty. There is plenty of talent at WR right now.

There isn't "plenty" of talent at WR but we have enough to get by. We could use an upgrade in the WR position with a little more speed and a better possession receiver. Don't get me wrong, I like DJK for the deep threat and MyNutt seems to be capable of being the possession guy but we need to be 4 or 5 deep at the WR position just to be safe.

I thought Soup was supposed to be able to upgrade the WR corps?

I don't see the problem with your WR corps.

Soup didn't attract the WR's to Michigan so much as the Michigan brand did. He just happened to be a great WR coach with a school that attracted a lot of talent.

Frankly, I think he has improved thing in your receiving game. But he isn't going to magically garner you 4 and 5 star WR recruits if that's what you expected.

Are you serious? And if we had those "receivers" what would that actually do. Could we win a BCS game with that kind of talent? Oh, wait.....we already did that.

This is silly...

we have the best WR corps we have had in the Ferentz era. Big key for 2010 is to have Keenan Davis step forward and be good. Next year we could have 3 guys (DJK, McNutt, Davis) who are all 6-2 or taller, fast enough and who can catch. Sandeman is fine at No. 4. If guys like Jordan Cotton or an incoming freshman step up, even better. But the top four of DJK-McNutt-Davis-Sandeman is plenty good to get us where we want to go.
The bigger question is the o-line and if we can protect the QB enough to throw them the ball.

not sure I get it either.....I feel as good as I ever have about our WR's

Congrats on your Insight Bowl victory; I think CPR is a great guy and will do a lot of good things for your program.

McNutt was 2nd in the Big10 in yards per catch (for recievers with 10 or more receptions) at 19.8 yards a reception and had 8 touchdowns. That seems like more than just a "posession receiver" to me.

DJK and McNutt will be the most elite and feared receiving duo in the Big10 next year and one of the best in the nation.

We have 2 VERY good receivers who play notably different roles. DJK flat out stretches the defense and makes you fear the deep ball--i'm talking a ball the goes 30-40 yards in the air. McNutt has very soft hands and wow can he go up and get the ball. McNutt can also run after the catch--he's not a blazing fast guy but is tough to take down and elusive. He got most of his long plays on 10-20 yard balls that he then took to the house. DJK caught a bunch of balls WAY downfield many of which were a catch and fall.
Our passing game really took a hit in the 2nd half in the OB b/c we lost our "deep threat". the good news is that keenan davis could be that second true deep threat next year and beyond. future looks bright at WR.
