Stanzi looks sharp

Very poor offensive line play played into Rickys hands. It gave him the opportunity to show his strengh of scrambling and finding the open receiver down feild, or making the choice to get rid of the ball. Ricky's stock had to make a nice jump today.

Vandy is/will be better than Ricky

You must be a joy to hang out with. I mean, I don't care what your opinion is of Stanzi, but the thread was about him having a good day. Why go out of your way to bash the guy?

I bet in your circle you're "that guy."

Someone is like, "man I'm having a great day", so you chime in "yeah, but its only Tuesday so this week sucks"

Another guy is like "great news, I'm having a kid!" Everyone else "Congrats!" You, "Do you even know how much a child costs? Obviously not, and your next kid will probably be better anyway."

There is certainly irony in this statement, but I really dislike negative people.

I guess it depends on how you look at it, I took the comment of Vandy is/will be better as a positive and something to look forward to and not a slam on Ricky. Maybe you're "that guy".

I love Vandy, and I expect great things, but I remember a lot of talk about Drew Tate leaving and JC being so much better. Vandy>JC, but lets hold off on the "better" than Stanzi talk until he gets half a season under his belt.

Couldn't agree more. Why is it that no matter who we have a QB or how well he is playing, his back up is always "so much better"? I"m amazed no ones writing off Vandy since Rudock is signing and isn't the Jr. from Illinois interested in coming to Iowa, might as well add those names to the list since they haven't seen a collegiate snap yet. But then again with all game time Vandy's seen I guess we as fans are more than able to say how much better he is that Ricky was.

Like Vandy alot, but the ignorance makes me sick.

Well Ricky wasn't Chuck Long and he might develop into a serviceable NFL QB....but I was sitting in the endzone in the shoe lase year....and Vandenberg has more physical assets than Ricky could ever hope to have....that toss to McNutt in the shoe was an NFL quality throw. And with experience Vandy will clean up those interceptions and stuff.

But best of luck to Ricky!!

that was a great throw, but the one that blew me away was the running throw to a covered Stross in the end zone that was perfectly placed but dropped. one the best throws in college that year.

I think people discount Stanzi's size when it comes to the NFL. Vandenberg may have the stronger arm but Stanzi is big enough to take the punishment in the NFL, and he also moves very well in the pocket for as big as he is. In a few years I could see him being a good pro. If I were an NFL GM, I'd love having the chance to pick up a kid like that in the third or fourth round.

That was an awesome throw. Vandenberg had a couple of great throws in that game. I think the challenge for him this year will be becoming consistently great, not just great some of the time. Sure there will be growing pains, but I'm looking forward to it.

None of what you just said has anything to do with "is"...:)

Players stock is affected more by the week long practices in front of scouts and not as much by the actual game.

Certainly Vandy made some great throws in that game, but let's not forget the bad throws he made as well........not to mention the lack of offense in the NW and Minnesota games. Vandy has/had a long ways to go, but he definitely has the skills to surpass Rick. I'm guessing Rick also helped him quite a bit in the mental aspects of the game.

lack of offense in Minnesota was due to not picking up blitz...Pretty common mistake for a freshman who hadn't played....can be corrected and probably has. NW...I still blame that jackknob we had kicking fieldgoals :cough: Danial Murray: cough: Vandy led offense down the field after he came out in second half and then Murray missed it. I think that just ruined his confidence...already thrown into playing with the undefeated record on the line....the pressure was immense.

Why would a QB lose his confidence from a PK missing a fieldgoal?

If our QB's confidence is tied to a place kicker's accuracy, we're screwed...

Well as a freshman....the team is sitting at 9-0 never really played real minutes before....didn't work with offense entire week. You don't think that might shake someone up in that situation??

Stanzi had a good week of practices as well as the best performance from the North QBs. Only Ponder looked better in the game, and although Stanzi hung up a couple of passes I think he had a very good grasp of the offense he was trying to run and there were more than one mis-communications with receivers. I also think his scrambling ability, interviews and his football IQ get him drafted no lower than the 3rd round now.

Most of what I read said that Stanzi's stock was dropping all week. His lack of arm strength was killing him. I seriously doubt he goes in the third. He will probably never be starting caliber.

I would put a lot of money (of which I don't have) on Stanzi being drafted after the 3rd round. I think there are at least 6 QBs that are better fit for the NFL than him. I would doubt any NFL team thinks of him as a future starter. I just don't see it.
