Stanzi - leading passer in the Nation

First of all, it was not a Rose Bowl rule. It was a Big Ten rule. Second, Iowa did not go to the Rose Bowl after the '59 season. Last, in '60 Iowa & Minnesota tied for the Big Ten championship. However, Minnesota beat Iowa.

I respect what Ricky has done, but it's hard to believe he has done more than Chuck Long or even Brad Banks. Both were in NYC and nearly came away with a Heisman. Unfortunately, Ricky may have had the same shot unitl last week. Iowa has had some great QB's and Ricky may well be one of them. Rest of year will tell more.

I would rather have Stanzi than Banks.
Lay off the meth. All BB did was lead us to an undefeated Big10 title and earned a trip to NYC and finished 2nd in the voting.

I'd rank 'em like this:
1. Long (he will always be number 1 until someone can put up his type of numbers for four years, go to the Rose Bowl, and win a Heisman.)
1A. Banks (I think he could've put up Chuck-like numbers had he played 4 years like Chuck did)
3. Rogers
4. Stanzi

There is way more to being a good quarterback than just passing. Yes, Stanzi is a good passer, his numbers would go down a little too if he didn't take stupid sacks or run out of bounds 5 yards behind the line instead of throwing it away. His shuffle pass with 10 seconds left the other night would count against his efficiency but it should.

Banks was a different quarterback that added the running element along with a good enough passing game. That is what puts him ahead of Stanzi for me. If we are just saying passer than it would be Stanzi, but that is not all a quarterback does.

Obviously the "personifies the Hawkeye team" is all that the NFL scouts are looking for, so Stanzi will be a first-rounder for sure! And obviously Kellen more is not a determined worker, so you've sold me.

On the original list, it looked like Auburn's QB was third. They've played a tougher schedule than either Boise or Iowa, so I guess since we should toss out the players with the better stats because they play an inferior schedule, then the Auburn QB is the leading passer in the nation?

Or is that only OK to do when it makes an Iowa player look better?

You can't tell me Brad Banks didn't make stupid passes or plays like that. What cracks me up is that you are putting the entire game on his shoulders. If that play would have happened at any other point in the game, would you care? No. The kid did absolutely everything he could to win that game. He made a few mistakes and so did the rest of the team, they were 1 mistake away from winning the game and the one you point out is the most far fetched from turning into points.

I understand they are different players, and I'm not even going to try and rate them. I think Stanzi is a better QB in the Iowa system than Brad Banks. Stanzi is easily the best passer between the two. Brad Banks only ran for 400 yards his senior year.. Tim Tebow ran for 800, Vince Young ran for 1000.

You can say its because of the system, but that is why I think Stanzi is better. Not WAY better. just better here.

Tossing out Kellen Moore because of the team he plays for is dumb. He has been of the nation's top QBs in terms of passer ratings for some time now. And the team he leads has lost, like, 1 game in his entire career.

Stanzi last year was bad, statistically, but had the 4th quarter magic and was leading an undefeated Iowa team. This year, he's much better statistically, but seems to have lost that 4th quarter magic and the team already has two losses. Combine the two, and if we ended up with a couple 13-0 season, THEN I'd say he would have been the greatest Iowa QB.

No one compared those two. Why did you bring it up now? (just realized that you were talking about the OP ;))

NFL scouts have said numerous times that Hawkeye players make excellent NFL players.
