Jake Rudock threw 5 first half touchdowns as St. Thomas Aquinas routed Cooper City in playoff football friday night. Rudock was 10-12 for 155 yards and again played only into the third quarter. He now has 33 touchdown passes and only 2 interceptions on the year. Cooper City ended its season 9-3 and scored a late touchdown to avoid the shutout.

And we need to replace KOK before he ruins the boy.

Rick Stanzi went from a lightly recruited (lightly in the BCS conference schools sense) QB to someone that is going to get drafted between the 2nd and 4th rounds, and one of the most decorated quarterbacks in Iowa history.

I wouldn't say Rick was ruined

Now, something far more likely to have an impact is negative fans posting stuff like this on message boards over and over and the prospects or parents reading them.

I agree Jon. It is amazing the level of negativity our fans have on a team that had a tough year but were only beaten by 4 very good schools. I hope most student athletes don't read these posts. I would say in the last 10 years, this is the most negative that I have seen it. I also notice that most of this comes from posters that are fairly new and never bring anything but negativity to the site. Keep up the good work Jon.

Being honest, the only reason I click on this post was because I instantly thought 'I wonder how long it took before someone ****** all over it'

Not long, sadly yet predictably.

The lack of perspective related to the Iowa football program, right now at least in the emotional throes of unmet expectations, is a bit sad.

I got a chance to see him shine in the Kirk Herbstriet Classic in Arlington, there is no way Derby stays at QB. He moves to LB to open another slot up at QB to be able to have a QB in the 2012 class.

I opened this thread thinking someone was cracking a joke about the 7 deadly sins. It must be the tripacrap(sp?) that everyone says in the turkey.

Jakes only problem at Iowa is that he lost the job to a better player. He certainly didn't get ruined here. A lot of a players ability is mental and with Jake's post Iowa whining I would have to speculate that Jake lacked the mental side. Not the smarts, but the emotional maturity.

You know I was just thinking this morning what would have happened this year if Derby had come in as a LB last Spring. Seems like a perfect fit for the LEO spot that came open after Neilson's injury. Morris and Derby could make a pretty impressive LB duo.

On a side note, I don't like a lot about the way Iowa runs their offense, but I do think KOK can develop a QB. While some people talk about the fact that he hasn't coached an NFL QB yet, you can't look at any of his QB's with the realistic belief that any of them. MCCann, Banks, Chandler, Tate, JC, Beutcher really had the tools to be an NFL QB even if they had the best QB coach in the world.

He really has done a fairly decent job working with what he has had to work.

Rob Howe is sticking by what he stated this summer that Derby will become a linebacker. i'll give Rob the benefit of the doubt and assume that his source is reliable. As of right now i will just sit back and wait til its officially announced.

If it's going to happen, hopefully it will happen during the bowl prep period. If he makes the switch, it would be Nielsen, Morris, and Derby as the starters next year. That would be a very athletic group.

I'm waiting for someone to question how good this kid is because of the talent he has around him. Maybe, just maybe, Jake is helping those receivers look all that much better. The kid has great accuracy and just from high school videos, I know it's only high school, but judging from those videos, he is head and shoulders above Derby skill wise.

Puhlease -

Any fanbase from any competitive program that had these expectations would be having these same threads on their boards.

I would think recruits would be much more concerned with a fanbase thinking that an 8-4 season was the equivalent of winning the Rose Bowl than being disappointed.

No one has called out any players. We live in an internet world and the entire Division 1 athletics world has message boards. Suggesting that a disappointed fanbase has a negative impact on recruiting to that degree is a stretch at best.
