Spring Football at Iowa

Don't you have to score 1st before you can kick off?
While that is true and we haven't been an offensive juggernaut. Closer to offensive. I think our offense will be better. I haven't seen a lot of LeShun Daniels but I think he can be a really good back. If we go back to utilizing the run game properly it will open the receiving lanes and I have a feeling C.J.B. would be willing to pass the ball.

This group has potential, the LBers are probably still going to be pretty raw. It'll probably be pretty comparable to how Morris played as a Soph.

It's nice to actually return starters in a lot of key areas for once. That's always been the biggest issue, and usually haunts any Iowa team that had/has a chance at something special.

Once college basketball is over I'm ready for football. I used to be a huge baseball fan and watched games all the time. Since the baseball strike of 1994 I lost 70% of my interest and I've never gotten it back. Also lost my love of the NBA when players cried foul every time they missed a shot and the media focusing 90% of the time on Kobe and LeBron. The blatant disregard for calling fouls on star players and the only games to watch had to have the stars playing it just got old for me. Maybe I'm in the minority but the NBA fashion show at the all star break was over the top. The stars refusal to be in the dunk contest but always telling everybody how they could win. I just got fed up with pro sports except football. I'm way more into college athletics now but women's softball doesn't do it for me. Sorry for the rant but I want some Hawkeye football. No matter how frustrated I've gotten over the last several years it's like a drug and I need my fix.

I have a feeling you'd find a few people here that would like to place a bet on that. Somehow I feel like you're a little down on the Hawkeye program but 0-12 is a little ridiculous. What if they shocked the world and went 10-2. Would you still be hating on the team. Every year has new opportunities. Usually I subscribe to the theory of past results predict future results. I'm predicting the Hawks to go 7-5 and with a break 8-4 this year.

Sorry, didn't note my sarcasm. But for the record, I predict between 5-7 and 7-5.

I guess I continue to look at it through rose colored glasses. You realize that four of our losses were by a combined 15 points. If for no other reason our linebacking corps will be better because of a year of experience. And we will have running backs instead of fullbacks running the ball on a regular basis. Our offensive and defensive lines will be a mixed bag this year as there is some experience but also a number of new faces. And, according to many, our QB will be better. I'm hoping that the meeting our coaches went to with the Green Bay staff will lead to a few changes in the offense; not to say that that our offense will be as proficient as Green Bay's but perhaps some formations/actions can be taken from their offense and used.

Only time will tell.

I'm not sure the Green Bay Packers coaching staff is the best one learn from. Their last 4 seasons have seen rosters loaded with talent be an exercise in underachievement.

Here's how their last 4 seasons have ended: double digit home playoff loss, blowout loss at SF, home playoff loss to SF, biggest NFC Championship game choke job since 1998, probably ever.

In that game their offense had multiple opportunities to bury Seattle but scared coaches took the run and hide approach (sound familiar?) and Seattle hung around and made their move late.

Green Bay's offensive is about ProBowl talented players drafted by Ted Thompson led by an all world QB. Iowa doesn't have any offensive players that would even be all MAC.

Remember the old saying: Every man is my superior in that I may learn from him.
