Sports...and endless series of tests...for winning

A philosophy of winning, demanding the best, constant evaluation, improvement...or not. From the GM of the Vegas Golden Knights...second best record in the NHL as an expansion team at the half...(yah...Iowa could use some of this...it is now "coaster" University for the staff and players...AD leadership or lack thereof)

On the next step...for the second half of the season (NHL.com)

"It's passing whatever the next test is. That's what's great about sports. It's an endless series of tests. You're never …

"The day you stop passing those tests is the day you get replaced or the day you retire, whether you're a player or a coach or a manager, equipment guy. If you're doing a good job and passing the tests, you'll have a job and the team will do well. If you're not passing the tests, all the challenges you're faced with, then it doesn't work.

"It's all the tests we're all aware of, and it's one after another, and you have to pass them. It's how this business works."

Except that in business, it's not usually about the bottom line, efficiency and performance. Relationships and power are what drives decisions.

The coaches at Iowa have a lot of power and relationships.

Seriously watch this video and it'll be more clear. There is a reason why there is such power. I have no idea what that power is, but I can guess and it usually involves money. This video totally explains how the US works. It also is about business and families.

Let me explain how this works another way. As a note, I am not saying anything remotely close is going on at Iowa like the example.

Reports on Nassar continued for 20 years. In 2014, the President was for sure aware there had been a Title IX AND a police investigation, yet he continued to work with young females for 16 months for the university. The President said to do it straight up AND then did nothing further. No fewer than 14 administrators new about complaints from no fewer than 8 young females. And yet the President says they are not as bad as PSU.

What I am saying is that as long as FM has power nothing much will happen. Same with KF. It is not necessarily about wins. It's about donors, fan attendance, and Big money from TV. There could be other aspects too. Under the table money is done routinely in businesses and Govt. Higher education is not immune.

The coffers aren't going to change that much.

Many donors are motivated by privileges. The system is ripe with this kind of stuff.

The caveat is that if Cook leaves one way or another, there isn't a lot to work with for the future.

Administrators don't like to deal with bad news...it makes them look bad...it is better to avoid it, bury it, or rationalize it. Kirk has a PHD in this!!!

If the AD fires a coach, it makes (him) look like he made a bad hire...better to avoid it, pretend, put on the happy face, keep the fire of complaints at a smolder level.

People in power, don't like to lose that power...rather sit on the throne of entitled living.

When there is such power centered in a few...the system is in place to keep them in power...coddle the big money people, play nice with the "press" and give them special treatment so they don't write or say anything provocative or negative about the power people.

Iowa is led by a group of incompetent losers...who focus on making sure the money comes in and that they stay in power...and their families stay in power...where are the prophetic voices who clamor for change...who will lead them?

And the Dr. Pervert with the gymnasts...he was given special treatment because of who he was...ingrained, an icon..and a Muslim...no one dare challenge one of the favored groups of the day...that is death to a prophet. Same reason the crazy psychiatrist in the Army was able to murder all those young people at Ft. Hood...superiors knew he was an off the train tracks Islamic, dangerous zealot..but pity the officer who would dare to say that the man of color/Muslim Dr. isn't competent to be an Army officer..and needs to be gone!!!

Iowa has a lack of prophetic, dynamic, winning leadership...throughout...the system now produces losers...and as long as the $$$ is happy with it...well, what else matters?

Boy, who knew Vegas had an NHL team.

Cool statements though! True.

I was just in Vegas last weekend. It was a cool sight what they've done with the Hockey team. They played the Oilers and there were Edmonton fans EVERYWHERE. Jerseys and fans everywhere you looked.

I was at the Oilers game...thousands of drunken Canadian hockey fans...was sitting in a coven of them...great game...very fast paced skating and loud! Lots of Ranger fans in the prior game...standing room only for both games...Rangers fans next to me were very nice folks.

The owner of the Vegas Golden Knights said he wants to build a winning franchise immediately...make the Stanley Cup playoffs in the first 1-2 years and win the Cup within five years.

How refreshing!

Oh for God's sake

This is what is so unique about Vegas. This was brought up with the Raiders to Vegas talk. They mentioned that many of the "fans" may not be really Raider fans but often times the stadium will be filled with football fans that are in the city for business or pleasure. It would be a different dynamic than other teams. May have good attendance but not really a real rabid fan base. Kind of a casual atmosphere.

Also, Vegas would get traveling fans of the opposing teams who want to get away. Go watch your team and hit the Vegas night life.

-30 in Edmonton...when they played in Vegas...67 sunny...hmmmm....that would inspire a trip...

Stubhub tickets are $$$ when these traveling rabid fans are in town...

Lots of Vegas fans...as well

Iowa...winning isn't everything...job security...low expectations..yes...

I don't know why fans are so upset...we beat Illinois last week!!!!
