Spearman OWI?

KF usually seems to go one game for first alcohol offense. KF seems to have about a zero tolerance policy for illegal drugs or PEDs.

It's a 100 percent avoidable crime. No excuses.

The fact the kid is underage is not withstanding. Everyone likes to say kids will be kids and it wasn't that big of a deal back in the day... Well that's all well and good till someone you know gets hurt or worse by a drunk driver....

Unfortunately the alcohol involved can really impair people's judgement. They start feeling like they are ok and alert and judgement is gone.

The worst part is the person who has a serious drinking problem and has a very high frequency of drinking drunk and driving.

I hope Spearman stays around and this doesnt happen again. He is tall and still looks like he will add a bunch of muscle. It seems DEnd would be logical. I wonder if he can catch and play TEnd?

I never understood drinking and driving . I recently visited University and really enjoy walking around the campus. It is really easy to walk around the campus.I have visited so many different college campus across country. Iowa have the nicest campus around. I never understood driving and drinking.

OWI is bad. And there's bad and badder.

Is this a moped OWI where basically only he is going to tear up himself or 2-ton vehicle bad OWI where somebody else can get killed.

Not really that upset. Lose some depth but he's not one of our top 3 LBers.

In fact I like Jewell, Alston, Bower and Perry all better than Reggie.

Everybody keeps saying his best position is DE not LB. Unless LB has no one capable behind him then why is he playing out-of-position. This sounds like the Aaron White of football: "he's a really, really good player but he can't show that he's a really, really good player consistently because he's a 4 (DE) and not a 3 (LB)."

Iowa looks like a LB depth is okay; get them reps this year instead of a guy that is going to play DE next year.

Our depth might be OK but only because it's a very low bar. It's kinda hard to believe there is a better LB on the sidelines. If there is it will be another wtf moment.

I get that college kids don't always make the best decisions. Been there... Done that. That being said... If you are the starting linebacker for a Big 10 football program ... And you are in the middle of the season ... One would "think" that person would use better judgment.

I always lived really close in and walked everywhere. Wouldn't even start my car for several weeks. Now, they keep building these complexes further and further out. There's that huge place out by Walmart, and stuff way out in Coralville and wherever. Don't why the kids choose to live in those places, as they're missing out on some of the best parts of living in a college town like IC.

That's what I hate about owi's. The penalty is the same if you get pulled over for a tail light and are driving perfectly fine and blow a .08 as it is for someone who gets pulled over because they can't even keep their car on the road and blow a .3.

It's very clear that the more you drink the worse you drive but if there's a list of who I don't want to share the road with, a guy who isn't an idiot driver in general and blows a .08 is behind people over 70, people under 25, and people texting.

I wanted to add woman and Asians but that would be politically incorrect of me.

I got busted for underage drinking senior year and missed the conference golf tournament. I quit drinking all together because I couldn't risk getting busted again until golf was over. Didn't even get to drink at our graduation party because we made state. The risk was small but it wasn't worth the punishment. And that was for high school golf. I couldn't imagine risking it for D1 football.

Good story.

Well, the person with the .08 can receive a Deferred Judgment and get it taken off their criminal record, but the person with the .30 cannot. Also, many prosecutors will ask for and many judges will give more than the minimum on higher levels, generally anything over .20. Sometimes with a high test level, the judge will suspend some jail time over the defendant's head, like 30 days or so, just to give a little extra incentive to behave.

Oh, and the person who gets the .08 is less likely to be ordered to do substance abuse treatment than the .30.

That having been said, if you drive while barred, most counties give at least 5 days jail for a first offense and some (BlackHawk, Clinton, Woodbury maybe) give 30 days for a first offense. Let that sink in for a bit...you can drive drunk and get 2 days. You can drive while barred (usually for getting 3 driving while suspended charges, where the suspension is for nonpayment of fines) and do a month in the gray bar hotel.

Not necessarily prudent to this situation, but if you get a DUI/OWI on a military installation, it does not go on your civilian record

Or the moped OWI where he causes a 2-ton vehicle to have to swerve to avoid him and mow down a handful of students on their way to dinner? But since he was only on a moped it's not that bad right? Doesn't matter if he was on a moped or driving a car. His immature actions can cause the same amount of damage...

Living by Walmart will drive one to drink
