speaking of BYU

A month or two ago BYU came up in a post and I pointed out that they had hired a new coach, Kevin Young, and assumed they'd gotten their NIL house in order using Mormon money. They seemed poised for takeoff.

Right now they are on a five-game winning streak and Saturday might between Arizona in Tucson, 95-95. In the past game handshake line a little tussle broke out. But what made the news is that some of the Arizona fans started chanting an 'expletive Mormons" chant, you can guess what the word might have been.

Yesterday the Arizona AD issued an apology to BYU, coaches, players and fans for the chant, rightfully saying it was uncalled for.

My first thought was, my God, what's up with those rabid Wildcat fans?

But this morning I read an article stating that BYU has started expensing this anti-Mormon chant at many of their Big 12 road games. It went to so far that BYU issued a statement to the Salt Lake City Tribune pointing this behavior out, saying it had crossed a line of bad behavior. It further stated that BYU and the Mormon church strive to be a positive influence in all their efforts. The statement appeared in the paper in January.

Welcome to the Big 12, eh, BYU? I've been trying to figure out which school's fans might be yelling this. Would Iowa St fans?

I'm not Mormon and I don't understand why fans would resort to this kind of negative behavior. It is pretty reprehensible.

Has this made the national news?

Who cares? Honestly and not sarcastic.

Keep your side of the street clean and don't worry about anyone else. This kind of thing has been going on since sports started and it means nothing to the game. I could give you an exhaustive laundry list of the sketchy (and beyond sketchy) things the mormon church has done and represents, but I won't. Because it's meaningless noise.

The worst away game football experience I have had in 30 years of going to Hawk away games was Arizona State. By far. There are a lot of dipshits in that state.
