Soundoff on now

No, just the opposite actually. Seems folks that have an unrealistic expectation of averaging 45 yards per punt are the ones that are comparing him to guys of that caliber. That isn't going to happen for a walk on. The two guys KF has had that could do that both made it to the NFL and neither redshirted because they knew they'd contribute immediately (technically Austin Wheatley was the "starting" punter to open 1997 but Baker punted as well and did all the punting after a couple games). But everyone else that didn't make it there, some on scholarship and many not, have been virtually the same production as what we have now, 39-41 yards per punt, a couple at 38. You have to go back to Nick Gallery's last two years to find someone that averaged 45 per punt at Iowa, and that's only because Brion Hurley did the pooch punting.
How much pooch punting has Rastetter done?

If we are a couple yards better than the other punter, who cares and what does it matter when we punt 3x more than the opposition.

I was responding to the post that said we give away 20 yards of field position exchanging punts, when we actually gain five net yards based on real number. And we've punted 25 times, the opponents 26.

Enough that 6 out of his 25 punts have been downed inside the 20, so a fourth of them (and no touchbacks).

I don't even know what I was saying there... sorry about that everyone. Poor execution on my phone. I'll clean things up and be ready to go next week. That's message boards.*Snort
I figured it was a phone issue. Happens to me all the time

Iowa media types will never call out the coaches. It's pathetic.
I defend them. HC has memory like a elephant.Press conferences a tad controlled no? Better recruiting? Remember when o/c introduced.h/c and new o/c said recruiting recruiting recruiting.Oh well.Win next week and a little break.HAWK players very tough.

KF plans to skuffle into "another" bowl game...reminding every fan it is foolish to complain about "success"

It's time to call our punting game as it is: It's bad. The punter is from my hometown so I'm rooting for him, but 30 yards a punt is not getting it done, If he's the best we got we better start looking to convert some soccer players.
Maybe our punter is just tired.

Sound off has become a joke the only negative caller they let through is Tommy and nobody knows what the heck he's talking about. Some callers are just face it, not too bright. Callers with real valid points the ones we want discussed rarely make it through the screening. I checked out his average you are right he is averaging 40 yards a punt with a long of 59. He had 6 punts with a 37 yard average with a long of 49 against Michigan St. Take away the 49 and the average drops a ton. So I think we are really talking closer to 30 yards on the other 5. Most were out of the end zone so he could boom away. Most got out around the 30-35. Coverage as expected was not too much of a problem as the coverage outran the kick. Averages can lie. On the positive side he hasn't been blocked or have it fall off his foot, or botched a snap. He had a great special teams play that went for a first down and with a little better pass could have gone for a TD.
