One of the guys mentioned something that I did weeks ago, and got criticized for....and that is that they NEVER hear KF or any of the Iowa staff talk about Championships....this has bothered me for over a decade now. It is NOT a goal of his....it's to show how great he is at coaching up 2 stars, and winning games HIS way with his middle finger in the air....that is what excites him.

I think it is just Kirk's mentality. Sure they want to win championships... We just no longer have the program get there.

Seriously, your premise that kfootball gets a bonus for a championship misses the mark. why shouldn't we have a coach that publicly declares his intentions?
HOW REFRESHING!!!! Todd Graham when interviewed on the field 5 minutes ago, just told Todd McShay that it was their goal to win the next 4 games and play for a National Championship....that with a team fielding NINE new starters on defense. Football tradition as a roadblock? Nah....Graham wants to hear none of it. During the game Chris Speilman said "Todd Graham expects his team to always be mindful of playing for a National Championship....to which McShay responded, "Any coach not thinking that way, probably needs to be coaching somewhere else."
KF is happy going 3-1 during his pre-season games (non-conference), and having his team get their sea legs under them by the end of October....he said as much a couple weeks ago. He needs to go!!!

I've heard Kirk say a thousand times that their goal at the start of the year is to win every game. That would result in a championship, but maybe you need to hear the magic word to get off.

lol... I have never been a huge fan of Ferentz coaching style... but to think he doesn't want or try to win championships is pretty...
Of course he does...he is just trying (like most coaches) to keep his team in the moment.
Coaches blowing hard about winning championships are doing that for the media and the fans.

Bigtenchamp - If their is ANY coach in the nation that needs to actually come out and say the words, it is KF. Because the majority think he has it on cruise control with his middle finger extended.
And if it truly was a goal, he would place WAY more importance on recruiting and surrounding himself with the best staff possible....he does neither, so he is doomed from the get-go.

It doesn't miss the mark at all. We are talking about a million dollar bonus for a national title. Added to that, it would almost certainly include another huge contract and a possibility of a statue of himself outside Kinnick.

Do you even realize how much work KF would have to put in to reach that goal? Not to mention TOTALLY whore himself out to change....why would he do that when he is already making 4 million for coaching .500 ball whilst staying home recruiting 1 Star preps from Monticello.

Not only that but they had to completely revamp their defense a few weeks back after giving up 60 to UCLA. Their D will still probably get them killed later on this season. But you have to admire someone how recognizes that something is completely broken and takes tough measures needed to fix it, instead of continuing to bang your head against the same brick wall with the same painful results.

This is exactly the way I feel!
The only thing I would add is getting the best, most talented players we have on the field regardless longevity in the program. That is the other middle finger.
