Sorting Through the Bowl Outlook for Iowa

If you asked me following the PSU game. I would have gladly taken a Holiday Bowl bid. Disappointing overall though.

I just bought Holiday Bowl tickets and booked my room, I'm going to be so pissed at Rob if they don't make it there like he promised.

If it ends up being the Music City Bowl that's not a tough drive from Des Moines. If Iowa beats Nebraska I would likely make the trip. I couldn't justify spending money on the Holiday Bowl like I did with the Rose Bowl.

There are lots of fans that feel the same way. Dec. 27 is a terrible date for Holiday Bowl.

I didn't realize how likely the Holiday Bowl is for Iowa, here I was thinking Music City Bowl all the way. If the Big Ten gets 2 teams into the playoffs then Iowa is probably going to San Diego regardless of the outcome in Friday's game. Probably the only scenario where Iowa goes to the Music City Bowl is if Michigan wins out giving the Big Ten only 1 playoff team and pushing the other teams down a notch.

I certainly prefer the Music City Bowl. If I can avoid the airport during the holidays, I'm in a happy place. Plus, there's a chance that the opponent would be Arkansas. That would be righteous.
Are you thinking the Holiday Bowl even if the Hawks lose Friday?

If Washington wins out, theyre in probably bumping out the big 10 champ game winner. That would probably bump everyone down a slot, putting Iowa likely in the Music City

In years past, I think the schools could lobby for certain bowls, and the bowls could gauge which schools would be a better match for their particular bowl... but now I believe the bowl assignments are exclusively handled in the B1G front office, which has a rather rigid protocol for bowl/team assignment. :-(

Having said that, does anyone know if there is someone that could be influential in hearing the preferences of the fanbase and letting the B1G pinheads know?

I think the Big Ten takes travel and interest into consideration. They want to make the bowls happy. The tricky part comes in trying to spread the teams out to different bowls each year.

That's one thing I'm looking at. Nebraska has been at the Holiday Bowl recently and Iowa at the Outback.

But the Holiday Bowl would be left with a lot of unsold tickets if they were forced to take Minnesota. The Big Ten wants to keep their bowls happy.

I will take any bowl because god knows we need the few extra practices and I would like to see the seniors to at least have the opportunity to go out on a high note.
