Sorry, not seeing 1-1 to finish........

I'm placing a fair bet that the Hawks either, somehow, get out of the doldrums and go 2-0, or we completely tank and finish oh-fer. I don't see a split. We come out and lose to IL, we'll lose to NE as well.

Illinois is pretty bad and soft in the trenches. I think it's unlikely we'll lose to them. But I see no way our LBs can contain Nebraska's running game and I think Iowa loses that game by at least 3 TDs. I'm calling 1-1.

I think it all comes down to leadership in the locker room. Respected players getting their guys fired up and refocused to finish strong. Unfortunately...I think that's one of the key missing elements on this team.

I don't see it as a player leadership thing. This team has glaring strengths and weaknesses. The sidline weakness revolve around extreme conservative play that does not exploit strengths and showcases their own weaknesses.

Not about player leadership weakness. The leaders have been playing their guts out with an arm tied down in addition to lack of talent in a number of areas.

I agree that those are the structural problems...and that's why we've lost the games we have.

My point is whether the team gives up....or decides to fight to the finish in these last two games...will largely come from the players.

I don't see the Hawks giving up or quitting in these last 2 games. At this level, these guys just are not wired that way. The one possible exception is Fant. I'm not saying he has checked out, but something is clearly amiss. He has done something that Kirk is not pleased with. That combined with Stanley unable to get the ball to him when he's in must be frustration for Fant. I see a win over Illinois and a close game with Nebraska. A win over Nebby only comes if Hawks can contain Martinez and not let him run to keep drives alive.

I see a split, Illinois is really bad. We can probably piece together a team from these message boards and beat them. On the other hand the cornholers are getting better as the year goes on and in typical Iowa fashion we are going the wrong direction and regressing the end of the year.

10 years ago, I would have agreed. But ever bince my knee surgery, I've lost a step and Ghost doesn't post here anymore so I don't know who could possibly play middle linebacker.

Let’s add on the bowl game, however meaningless to most of America it will be. 1-2 is the best this Iowa team will do. And based on the past 3 weeks I’m being optimistic with my prediction.

We could draw the Servpro First Responders Bowl and a middle of the pack C-USA team. While it wouldn't be a gimme, it would at least be a coin toss so a prediction of 1-2 at best is a little fatalistic.

We might beat Illinois, maybe, they played us tough until about halfway through the 3rd quarter last year when they were ready to score and threw a pick 6, but I don't see how we beat Nebraska. Yeah, they suck, but they can put up points, and have a lot of talent and speed on offense with a running qb that can actually throw well, good receivers, and 2 good running backs, 13th ranked offense in the country. Our offense will stop itself, and Nebby won't have any trouble covering our receivers, and as far as a running game, well we don't have one. Also no turnover machine at qb for them anymore that helped us immensely the last few years.

I want to see their offense in bad weather against a good defense. They shredded Illinois in the cold, but let's see what they do against some Big Ten level competition. I think their misdirection will confuse our defense and the team has quit which is likely to lead to a convincing victory for Nebraska, but I ain't totally sold on that style of offense in the Upper Midwest. The Upper Midwest weather is to fancy football offenses what the Russian winter is to the German Army.

Illinois ran for nearly 400 yards (7.8 per carry) last week against the Cornhuskers. So the key to winning this Saturday is limiting Corbin to short runs.

I think the Hawkeyes will also be able to run too. The problem is that I don't think we'll have two score lead with under 6 minutes in the game. The difference will be that Illinois will turn the ball over late in the game and we finally win a classic KF nail-biter.

I honestly really could care less. Interested in basketball now.

I am thinking about seeking permission to use recordings of this year’s football season as a cure for people who have trouble with insomnia. Could make millions like Kirk. Welp, chomp chomp chomp, that’s insomnia, chomp chomp chomp,
