someone explain WHY the B1G would want Maryland and Rutgers?

A move towards a super conference is one reason.
I.e. when the (finally) playoffs come, teams in crummy leagues are going to suffer when the (finally) selection committee uses (finally) SOS to determine who makes the big dance. (cya idiotic BCS/apathetic voters/ignorant voters/homerism/diluted down computer)

I think this was as much as those two schools wanting to protect themselves for the upcoming FB playoffs as it was the Big-10 wanting to get into the eastern geography.

Delaney is high on crack if he thinks the NYC and DC cable operators will pay him much more than a nickel per subscriber.
Isn't it possible (or even likely) that the Big10 and BTN have already been in discussions with these cable operators?

Fox just purchased the YES network and now has a ton of leverage in NYC. With 9 Million subsribers in NYC alone and 20 Million countrywide, they will probably sell YES, BTN, and others as 1 package precisely what ESPN does. Even if they only get $1.00 for BTN, that is an additional $20 Million annually.
