Somebody Put $80K On Illinois To Cover Akron

Where exactly do you find an $80,000 house? A 150 square foot room in a basement with no windows in California is $250,000.
You must not have ever been to Iowa.

I bought my house from my mom in 2008 for market value, 1,075 square feet on a double lot, 3 bedroom 1 bath, double attached garage, detached one car garage for $59,000. Taxes are $1,185 per year.

The only thing I’ve done other than normal minor stuff is insulate the attached garage. I could probably sell it for $70K today I’d guess, but my kid will likely be moving away in 5 years and I don’t need anything bigger or fancier.

That's crazy...small town Iowa or outskirts of an Iowa City or Des Moines? I grew up in Iowa, but it's been decades since I've paid any attention to real estate in the state.

Small town. I swear on my life I wouldn’t trade my small house in a small town even/over for a half million house in a city over 10,000. F that.

I’ve lived in two different metros of over a million population as both a kid and adult and I hate everything about it. I don’t think I’ve ever slept in my current house with the doors locked (only locked when I leave town for some reason) and I do know for a fact I’ve never locked my pickup. I’ve actually never had a house key (my mom didn’t know where they were when I bought it) so if I use the garage door opener to get in if I need to. I did get locked out once and opened a window from the outside to send my kid through.

Yeah...I guess there is a comfort in knowing someone's not going to rob you or try to kill you for no reason...or some lame ass reason anyway. I wish these idiots with a grudge would just kill themselves and save others the heartache...but i digress.

You have to find what works for you...for me...I like the beach...l like to dine out...I like warm weather all year round...so I put up with the traffic, the assholes, and the inconveniences a big city puts in your face. Now...I will tell you...the congestion is getting worse...as people are deciding they want the same thing...and a decision will be upon me at some point...take the additional hassle or find another location less traveled.

Its gonna be so funny when some guy just bets over-under and straight up win/lose for Illini football and wins every week then slowly puts the entire gambling industry in Iowa out of business when the casinos lose all their money.
