There is no doubt Nate is a very good QB handling the ball, doing fakes, most of his throws, some of his runs. I like Nate as our QB except for his tendency to just get inaccurate out of nowhere. Last Saturday he came out throwing great balls, touch and accuracy on the first two drives. Then right at the end of the second drive he threw 2 passes behind open receivers one of which would have bee a TD to put Iowa up 14-0. Nate might hold the unofficial QB Sneak record for avg yardage per sneak.
The bad pass led to a missed FG.
From my point of view if a good QB coach could fix Nate for occasionally throwing high or behind or both he would be an excellent passer. Let's see if an NFL team can fix him.
Nate has gotten much better on the very long throws compared to his soph season.
It's like a hitter in baseball who overstrides, or opens his hips too soon and gets ahead of the ball. It's going to affect mechanics. The key is to be consistent, rep after rep.As Nate's feet go so does his accuracy. He occasionally gets out of rhythm on his drops, and when he sets he's just discombobulated. When he is calm and can get his feet set, he's money.
Nate is the equivalent of a pitcher that throws 99mph and has no idea where the ball is going. Just throws the ball as hard as he can, and wherever it goes it goes. He will look good if he drops back, has all day to throw, and doesn't have to go through his progressions, well most of the time. Against Illinois he was all over the place, and had all day to throw. He would not be able to handle the pressure of an NFL defense, and his decision making is simply to slow to survive in the NFL. He might get a look as an undrafted free agent, or get drafted very late. Depends on how desperate teams are for a qb.As Nate's feet go so does his accuracy. He’s largely a better NFL candidate than Stanzi, Rudock, or Beathard. As others have said, he could benefit from a good coach. Obviously has stuff to figure out, but he could very well be better than some of the lower tier QBs starting in the NFL right now.Nate is the equivalent of a pitcher that throws 99mph and has no idea where the ball is going. Stanley is an enigma. Imagine if he was more accurate? He would have stormed past Chucks yardage record and Iowa would have been in a B1G championship or 2. He is a perfect example of Iowa football. What could have been.
