Some NIU forum stuff.

I enjoy reading the perspective from the other side and realize not to read too much into their comments, but it's pretty comical to hear their fans wonder if they will "flood Kinnick with fan support". Iowa easily outnumbered NIU at Soldier last year and NIU has very few fans the way it is. So maybe 5,000 NIU fans in Kinnick.

I made it to the beginning of the second page before I had to x out. Reading that kinda ****** me off.. I think half because they're so confident and some make it seem like there's no reason they shouldn't just come into Kinnick on opening day and roll us, and half because I'm actually SLIGHTLY worried that it's possible.

Last year's opener was Lynch's first time ever starting so he's got a year under his belt. However, we are returning a decent chunk of our defense and our offense has absolutely no where to go but up. We need to set a tone early this season by grabbing a W on opening day in Kinnick against a team that (kind of) played in a BCS bowl last year.

I'm getting more and more excited with the passing days, but I'm staying cautiously optimistic. Man, I really hope we just freaking tee off on them and absolutely **** their world up come August 31..

I read through the whole thread. There's definitely confidence, but it's more 'if it's going to ever happen this is the year' type of thinking than it is they will walk in and kill us. There were plenty not feeling too good about their chances too.

I personally hope NIU is favored for this one. They can't use the underdog card and it should put a chip on the Hawk's shoulders.

It's kind of flattering to see how jacked up they are for the game. I think they hold Iowa in much higher regard than most Iowa fans do right now!

2,000 might be optimistic. I'm not sure they had much more than 7,500 at Soldier, and no, I'm not exaggerating.

You need look no further to see how much our program has slipped. Just a few years ago teams feared coming into Kinnick to play the Hawks.

Now look.

Its great to read a fan forum with some positivity, instead of the constant whining posted around here.

I skimmed through the whole thread I didn't think it was that bad......cough, cough unlike a certain fanbase that is predicting domination and scores like 42-10.

i found it comical that a guy "wore my huskie hat in iowa city yesterday and not one comment" and he was surprised by that. you're not wisconsin bro, you're northern illinois

I guess I'm not sure what the OP expected... they just played in the Orange Bowl after having one of the best seasons in that programs history. Of course their fanbase is going to be optimistic. Some of it is borderline ridiculous, but it pales in comparison to the delusion you see over on Cyclone Fanatic. Those Clowns haven't had an 8 win season since the 70's, and the majority of them act like Rhoads is building something special.

I am a little worried about Lynch exploiting our defense. One of the guys on that board makes a good point... the Iowa game last year was Lynch's first game as a starter. He played lights out most of the season, but a lot of that was against some pretty inferior competition. However, their defense lost a lot of players. The game is going to tell us a whole lot about how far the Hawks offense has come in a year because if they can't put up atleast 28 against a young NIU defense then we could be in for a very long season. The QB performance will be interesting to watch.

that is friggin funny. Like most would recognize it anyway. Probably thought it was from his HS lol

I am VERY worried about the NIU game. I have ZERO idea why anyone would believe we will win, or be the favorite going in. We couldn't stop Lynch last year, and our OL couldn't fend off their DL. Two lucky breaks got us the win. Now that NIU has had the "big-time" exposure of a BCS bowl, they will start to make noise every year barring sudden/severe drop-off in talent.
