There was a faction in the PSU administration, members of the board and prominent alumni who more or less thought Joe was over the hill following consecutive 5-7, 5-6 seasons in 2000 and 2001 and wanted him gone. Even the plain vanilla, supposedly objective AP was openly wondering whether it was time for Joe to retire.
Nocera's suggestion is that perhaps Joe didn't do much to bring light to the rape reports out of fears it would give the program a big black eye and be the excuse his critics finally needed to force him out.
But if this was the case then why didn't the AD, VP, or President of the University take advantage of the situation to fire him?
As I recall Sandusky was already "retired" from the football program so I cannot see how this would reflect badly on Paterno in anyway. Unless it has been covered up all along and Paterno knew what was going on.
One more shocking fact: this woman's daughter, Matt Sandusky's sister, is married to the local DA who not only sat on the investigation and turned it over to the state AG (now Governor) in 2008 because of a conflict of interest, but he was also in the office in 1998 when they had evidence against Sandusky and let him walk.
Dude, get a grip. I'm not railing on the OP for posting this. I'm saying I'm ready for the PSU thing to be over. Actually I was ready this weekend. I'm just ******* sick of it.
