Some interesting Big 10 Football happeneings

The more we hear it sounds like UM/OSU will be split and they will move "The Game" to earlier in the season. Huge mistake in my opinion.....

I guess OSU does not have the clout I thought they had,if this comes to pass. Maybe ''The Game'' is overrated as product for the Big Ten?
Maybe they will just eliminate the OSU-Michigan game altogether and have them play once in awhile instead.

Delaney should have his head examined if he splits these two.
They yield the last saturday of the regular season to a OSU-IU matchup?
Ridiculous.
Maybe they will send OSU to the West with Neb,Iowa,Wis,Mich, and PSU?
Nothing will surprise me now.

The more I hear, the more I find it likely that the Big Ten splits up OSU/Michigan. If that happened, I think the divisions would look like this:

Division 1
Michigan
Michigan State
Nebraska
Iowa
Illinois
Northwestern

Division 2
Ohio State
Penn State
Wisconsin
Minnesota
Indiana
Purdue

That is the only acceptable solution I have seen that splits up Michigan and OSU, splits up the big 4 evenly, and splits up the big 6 evenly.

Assuming the battle for Floyd is protected I could go for this, though I'd miss playing Wisconsin every year, and I like play PSU as much as possible.

Protected Rivalries:
Michigan / Ohio St (the game)
Iowa / Minnesota (Floyd)
Michigan St / Indiana (Spittoon)
Illinois / Purdue (Cannon) or Indiana
Northwestern / Indiana or Purdue
Nebraska / Wisconsin (contrived)

This is a far more likley alignment...based on maintaining rivalries and competitive balance.

Division 1

Michigan
Michigan State
Nebraska
Iowa
Illinois
Wisconsin

Division 2
Ohio State
Penn State
Northwestern
Minnesota
Indiana
Purdue
Don't know nuttin' about no rivalries, but D1 would have 4 of the top six teams historically and D2 has the other 2.

I think they should align first by competetive balance, then use geography as a sort of tiebreaker. Mine would look like this, but I don't what you call each division.

Michigan
Penn St.
MSU
Indiana
Purdue
Iowa

OSU
Nebraska
Minnesota
Illinois
Wisconsin
Northwestern

Really, with the exception of PSU the conference is pretty close together. I just don't see geography being as important as competitive balance. I would hate to lose competitive balance to save a rivalry game like Nothwestern/Indiana.

It has been talked about a lot about the "BIGGER 4" and then the "Big 6". I think they will split OSU/UM/NE/PSU 2-2, then split IA-WI. If you are going to put UM and NE in the "west", then I think you have to put Iowa in the west and PSU, OSU and WI in the east. I think then you put MSU, IL and NW in the west as well. In terms of competitive fairness, I think this is the best matchup. Based on the last 18 years, my opinion of teams are:

(1) OSU = (2) UM
(3) PSU = (4) NE
(5/6) WI = (5/6) IA
(8) PU = (7) MSU
(10) MN = (9) NW
(12) IN = (11) IL

This whole notion of competetive balance just burns me up! It is a mirage based on historical perspective and has no relevance to what will be. A straight geographical split is the only thing that preserves the traditional rivalries and yet is still competetively balanced at this time. I wish the powers that be would stop trying to turn us into the ACC!
