Sokol

he is to announce tonight
if he commits to Iowa
he will be a Sophamore and enroll in January
this also does count toward this years limit

Instant analysis:

Sokol will be a true junior in 2012. He plans to redshirt (giving him 2013 and 2014 to play) and compete with Rudock for the starting spot in 2013. He will most likely be the only QB taken this year. That gives Iowa a chance to make a big splash at QB in the 2013 class. Iowa's top targets in 2013 are 4-star Aaron Bailey from Bolingbrook, IL and #1 QB prospect Kevin Olsen, a 5-star out of New Jersey. I have read that two of Olsen's older brothers (including NFL TE Greg Olsen) took OVs to Iowa before committing elsewhere.

i got the 1st part from another person that he would be a sophamore coming in as he stated Sokol will have 3 years to play
either way it is still a good pickup as he will take Derby's place in the QB spot
with a freshman recruit that will give us 4 QB's on the roster when Vandy and Weinke graduate with a QB coming with those two going out
rather than just 3 on the roster
Sokol JR rs
Rudock SO rs
this years HS QB rs
2013 QB recruit to rs
gets us back to a solid rotation of QB's

Sokol has played two juco years, so despite having three years in which he can play, he is only eligible to play during two of those three years. That might be confusing; if so, I apologize. I get the feeling that Iowa is set at QB with Sokol and won't pursue another QB this year. I could be wrong, but I think they are going to put all their chips on the 2013 class now.

This staff will develop him like all the other QB's.....

Should I call him now and tell him to back out of his commitment?

He has 3 years to play 2 years. I wouldn't be too surprised to see him start as early as next year. A redshirt isn't needed. I have seen all I need to see last night... and I think the coaching staff has done the same.

Redshirting is what all the articles say... I just wouldn't be too surprised to see otherwise. He will be given the opportunity.

they need another QB that is a HS kid to give depth
with Derby going to the Defense no sense to tempt the QBfbg
by having just 2 QB and hoping we get a top ranked QB

It makes sense to bring in a guy with some experience now that AJ Derby is fulltime on defense. Its always good to have an experienced backup and who knows maybe he will be more than that.
