Sokol Excited to be a Hawk

i'm not sure if you will ever really SEE him. either assume JVB is starter this next season, or rudock beats him out and starts this next season. either way, i'm thinking rudock will be the one you see during sokol's tenure at iowa
 
I hope he gets his fair shot. I've heard redshirt for him next year but I think that may be a waste. I just have a feeling a McCann/Banks or Christiansen/Stanzi situation may be ahead of us if he gets a chance to compete next year. Hopefully if he's clearly more dynamic than Vandenberg the coaches won't be too stubborn to give him some PT early rather than half way through a losing season.
 
Jokes? That is straight from the heart, breakout year incoming for Weinke. People will be saying Vandenberg who?
 
The video that I've seen of Sokol is pretty impressive, but of course that's the pieces people are going to upload. I'd like to see some full game footage. Specifically in games he wasn't as good in. However, I think there is a very realistic possibility he can challenge. From what very little I've seen he seems to be able to move the chains. B10 play is a different animal, so it will be interesting to watch.

I am not as high on VB as many are, but I also don't think he is nearly as bad as Jake was when he got replaced. So, I wouldn't get too high of hopes on Sokol coming in and doing anything significant right away even if he does show hopeful.
 
I'll bet you a beer under a few conditions... It has to in Vegas, at a strip club, and a good local beer. I'll even buy you a lap dance. So start looking at strip clubs and local brews cause I put the odds in your favor, Weinke seems content sending in plays.
 
If JVB is the starter and Rudock is supposed to be heir apparrent...Where does that leave Sokol? Is there something (that we don't know) going on with the QB's that Iowa needs a start ready quarterback?

Maybe Rudock isn't all he's expected to be. Bringing in a Juco seems like they (the coaching staff) are expecting to need a QB in 2013 or possibly 2012.

Weinke hasn't shown anything in 3 years and expecting him to be more than the backup (to anyone) is a very long shot.
 
He probably never will see significant time. We want him for depth and he wants us for a chance at B1G football. That's about as deep as it gets.

I'm sure that Kirk still wants Rudock to have to compete for the starting spot and not just hand it to him. After next year JVB and Weinke will be gone so somebody is going to have to compete with Rudock. I've seen Rudock throw and fully expect him to win the starting spot and it'll be nice if Sokol ends up being at least a quality back up if needed.
 
My opinion as far as Sokol goes is that he is intended for depth and for the potential to challenge the others on the roster. With Derby switching positions mid season and now leaving everything points to that. After 2012 they'd have only Rudock as a quarterback and a walk on.
 
I don't see how people can say the Rudock will be the starter after JVB without seeing him play during an actual game. I think people are writing off Sokol too fast. It is not like the kid is a scrub, the kid made second team JUCO All American.

You need to take a QB every year, and when the high school QBS in this class didn't pan out they took the JC route. I like this, why settle for a high school kid? Also, this gives a gap for a QB recruit next year to come in and have more than one year to play. This is for depth. After next year, you have Ruddock, and if you don't take Sokol, you have a red shirt freshman, that wasn't at the top of your list this year.
