So..

We'll go as far as the defense takes us. The games we've lost or played bad and almost lost, we've played bad defense.

When we've played our best we've transitioned defense into offense. When we haven't, it's been close.

Don't understand the change in defensive tactics in middle of 1st half - Hawks were solid... then start trapping out of zone and man and PSU able to get bal out of the trap and attempt & make wide open 3's.... then we go back to staying solid and force enough stops to get with in 2 and had a possession to take lead or tie.

The 6 travels didn't contribute either...

Bench play, zone defense, rebounding, poor FT shooting, lack of a third scorer, effort, turnovers, lack of in game adjustments, SI jinx.....there is no wrong answer

Scouting report is out... Don't bother guarding Mike or Clemmons.

I mean we have 3 non scorers that play probably an average of 30 minutes a game.

Puts a a ton of pressure on Jok & Uthoff.

What's going on with this team?

Late season choke job?
"Peaked too early"?
Penn State use an Under Armour ball?
Senior Leadership failing?
Players girlfriends sleeping with teammates?
Not enough rest?

I'm not sure what it is, but if they want to make ANY sort of noise in the tournament, they need to figure it out ASAP.

Seniors missing Free Throws, turning the ball over in face palming ways, team looks unenergized and unfocused.

Very frustrating. Nobody cares what you're high was during the season, it's about how you end it.

can
If you're asking for opinions, I think the team is kind of worn down right now. Three or four individual players a little more so than the rest physically, but also think the whole team might be a little worn out mentally also. We'll see how things look after this coming week off. It MIGHT be a godsend. Give the team a chance to take a breath, rest up some physically AND mentally, and realize they still are in control of how far they go.

Yeah, I think that report has been out for a couple of weeks, now.

Ding ding ding. +1000 points.

Whoever decided that we should double team a mediocre player in Taylor is why we lost this game. PSU could not score at the beginning of the game and then they threw it into Taylor a couple times, Iowa doubled had no idea how to rotate out of the double which left guys wide open for three. Doubling the post can be done if you know what your doing i.e Virginia with Bennett. PSU hit a couple wide open shots which gave all there guys confidence. Once they had the confidence they became a tough team to defend. IMO that's why we lost. Re watch the first half and tell me differently.

Those 2 need to step it up big time or their Iowa careers are gonna end sooner than they should

Iowa is the best team in the conference. The pedos with their pathetically small crowd got lucky in a fluke. Iowa wins out.

A loss is a loss and they all count in the standings the same but we've still not lost a game by more than 7 pts. All is not lost yet and if they get back to playing team basketball, we'll be alright.

The main problem was Penn State lit Iowa up from 3 point land in the first half. After that:

Zone defense got destroyed
Woodbury got abused by a no-name senior bench player who nobody has ever heard of
Terrible rebounding
Missing too many free throws

I think Fran is going to spend the next week re-teaching the team how to play defense. The defense vs Indiana, Minnesota and Penn State was awful. That's just not Fran ball

Yeah...Winning our final 6 games of the regular season last year was horrible.

There was 2013-14. And 2000-01. And 2001-02. And 2004-05. 2005-06 was nice, but then NWST happened.

It's been a trend with Iowa basketball when it's having a big season to have it burn down in epic fashion. I'm paranoid as hell that's what's coming this year.

Anyone thinking this way is being paranoid...like you said. Fran's teams have performed better every season since he's arrived in both the regular season and the postseason. And the same will almost certainly be true this year. All we have to do is go 2-2 in the last 4 games; make it to Saturday in the BTT; and win 2 games in the NCAA Tournament (in Des Moines). I'm expecting and predicting more in all 3 of these scenarios but this is all it will take for another year of improvement.

Next year will be a cyclical step back due to graduation...not because Fran is doing a worse job of coaching.

Defense and turnovers lost game last night. As said before. 6 travels which are unforced doesn't help you win any game. Penn State didn't cause any of those. Most of the season we have been under 10 turnovers. We still shot above 70% from free throws. I'll take that most games.

Missed 10 free throws tonight. Make 50% of the ones they missed and we win. Not complicated

Shouldn't be too tough for a team normally shooting 70 something percent, right?

that was crappy Penn State, it shouldn't come down to FT's

What other 4 year starting PG is left alone at the top of the key all season long? MG baby, but he can pass to Uthoff and Jok and get jump shot assists with the best of them.

Bunch of factors:

1- Scouting reports are out on how to slow us down
2- We are a tired team
3- We were never THAT great to being with, just hitting on every cylinder for a while there. I don't think were are a top 5 team. Top 20 yes, top 5, no. Things were great for a while tho.
4- The curse is alive and very real
5- We have certain players that choke.

If the three starter roll players had each made one more bucket we win. It would make a difference if we guarded the 3 ball
